Thanks to College Sports TV (CSTV Channel 610 on DirectTV), I was able to watch the entire final round of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships on Monday night. They do a tremendous job covering collegiate wrestling, highlighted by excellent commentary by Dan Gable.
It was great seeing some of the top amateur wrestlers before the NCAA Tournament (March 18-20 in St.Louis).
Iowa edged out Minnesota for the team title, breaking a four year run by Minnesota.
I felt the tournament standout was Jacob Volkmann at 165 lbs from Minnesota. Volkmann stretched out Ohio State's Johnny Clark with a relentless attack and a series of vicious double chickenwings en route to a 15-2 victory.
2003 NCAA Champion and 2004 Olympic hopeful Damion Hahn (also from Minnesota) added a third consecutive Big Ten Championship to his resume at 197 lbs with a 7-2 victory over Iowa's Ryan Fulsaas.
