the best thing MTV has done in over a decade! (nypost.com)

Mike Judge has FINALLY decided to come back to his best work. It should be noted that the show was never 'canceled'; Judge just got busy with KING OF THE HILL and didn't have time for the show anymore. He did the movie practically for nothing for the network as an apology.

The new episodes pick right back up with no changes but newer music videos to make fun of.

Best news of the week... fuck, maybe even the year.

I personally thought Beavis & Butthead went out on top and they probably should have kept it that way. Of course, I said the same thing about Futurama and that show's still kicking a whole lot of ass, so what do I know?

Man, now that we're in a more emo era, this world NEEDS Beavis and Butthead to eviscerate these new music videos and their "bands".

I don't usually have any occasion to say this, but I'm with Cerebus. This is indeed the greatest news of this year. I can't believe we are this fortunate to get two awesome shows returning (It's False already mentioned the other one, Futurama).

It was especially good to hear that they will keep the tradition of having B&B watch and comment on music videos. Those were always my favorite part of every episode. Thank you Mike Judge for not having anything better to do with your time!

Yep, let me repeat this exact sentiment. Best news of the year.

Wow! Talk about completely unexpected good news! I can't wait to have another reason to watch MTV regularly (the first reason being "The Hard Times of RJ Berger"). I wonder if there's anything they can do, in this day and age, that could cause the kind of controversy they used to stir up. I can't imagine frog baseball and saying "Fire!" repeatedly would be a big deal anymore. Still, I'm really looking forward to this.

Did/does Mike Judge do the voices for both Beavis and Butt-head? How about the recurring characters? He must have done Mr. Anderson (since he and Hank Hill sound identical to me) but I'm worried about changes in the voice cast. That always makes it hard for me to jump back into a show, at least at first. In fact I'd say it makes a bigger difference to me than when they change an actor or actress in a live action show.

God, I'm so happy about this. For the cartoons I watch and love, Beavis and Butt-Head were the missing piece of the puzzle. South Park and The Simpsons are still around, Futurama is back and as good as ever, and now Beavis and Butt-Head are returning. They've been gone so long. They all must missed the last decade entirely! And frankly, since they went off the air, pop culture has only gotten stupider and more vapid.

I wonder if they'll somehow acquire a high definition TV to sit and do the monkey boy in front of? And how will Mike Judge address the fact that there are no videos on MTV unless it's 4 in the morning?

Sweet! Oddly enough, I was just watching some old episodes on Netflix via the PS3 a few nights ago. I still got a kick out of it, and even my wife with her doctorate, laughed as Butt-Head kept saying ""butthole". Timeless.

I feel like I'm in college all over again ... I'm with you guys regarding the videos ... imagine all of the crap music that has come out since they left the air ... it's open season.

Mike Judge was the voice of pretty much the entire recurring cast, except for Stuart (the dorky kid who wanted to be their friend), Todd (the criminal they wanted to hang out with) and Daria (who moved away anyway.)

So who will be the unfortunate band to replace "Winger" on Stuart's shirt?

Will the show now be Beavis & Butthead making fun of reality shows on Mtv?

I can see Hanson being on Stuart's shirt.

Hanson? What decade do you think it is? I'd guess Muse, or really, any shitty emo band on any Twilight movie soundtrack.

Well, I was thinking '95, and Winger was '89, so go back a few years and we've got Hanson.

Other than that I got nuthin'. I'm just glad they're back.

Does this mean Hank Hill is going to make a couple of cameos? Boomhauer, perhaps?

It's going to be interesting to see where they go with it since shows like South Park and Family Guy have raised the bar on all of that stuff. Beavis and Butthead reruns seem tame by comparison.

Oddly enough, the small clips of videos that they play for them to make fun of will be the most music MTV has on the network ;D

I'm excited to hear this though I hope they don't update the humour for 2010. It was always an edgy show but hopefully Judge resists the urge to turn it crass, like what the short lived Ren and Stimpy revival did.

Since they're bringing back shows, I wouldn't say no to a Daria revival either!

I also second the notion that Nickelback should replace Winger. No other band is more deserving for that honour.

Look, I love 'Beavis and Butthead' as much as anyone else here. But the last time I got really got excited about a cartoon show on cable being revived after several years was when I saw 'Ren & Stimpy' on Spike (TNN?). Needless to say, it was so bad it nearly destroyed what was so good about the original. So excuse me if I'm not jumping up in the air about a show that hasn't had anything new done to it in about a decade and hasn't been showing reruns to build a new audience to it like 'Family Guy' or 'Futurama' did during their cancellation periods.

I have great faith in Mike Judge and can see it being a great show once again. Then again, I can see it getting screwed up by MTV and/or not catching on by the teenagers it covets while us gen X'ers get our childhood memories ripped out of our hearts with all of the 'updated material'. I'm just saying to keep our temptations tempered; I hope it works out great, but this sounds like a bigger risk then we may realize.

I think part of the original R&S magic was John K having to work around S&P to be disgusting. When Spike TV let him do whatever he was no longer creatively crass, just crass.

Beavis and Butthead are returning to the same old network, and the only thing that has changed about MTV is it actually sucks more now, meaning there's more material than ever.

I desperately want to hear those two pontificate on the downfall of Metallica, and bemoan that they weren't around for the Napster fiasco...

Stuart: Well yeah I can show you how to get it for free, but it's stealing!
Butthead: Shut up and start downstealing my music, asswipe.

...or the birth of internet porn.

Didn't Beavis & Butt-head make a cameo in King of the Hill...or maybe it was Hank Hill on the Simpsons. I remember something where the cameo-character was sitting in the stands for a football game. Simpsons fans-- help me out, please!

Or maybe I'm just confusing Butt-head for the slacker kid on KOTH (the guy who walked up to Bill and dead-panned: "your wife left you"). Did they ever name that kid? I always figured he was Butt-head's previously unseen cousin, "Richard-Head".

As far Stuart's shirt: Linkin Park would work.

The video selection will be interesting and may even create a new "White Zombie" phenomenon for some lucky band. I think they stopped doing new video voice-overs sometime in early 1995 and would just re-run old segments in between new episodes.
