Here (gamespy.com) is what looks like some promotional material for the upcoming Backyard Wrestling: Don't Try This at Home game. Its an interesting read, especially if you're actually familiar with the ICP's WWF/WCW runs.

For an *upstart promotion*, they sure rely on name-dropping the big boys alot.

And how come they don't call JCW by its real name?

The only way this game will be saved is if the gameplay is awe-inspiring. Somehow, I doubt that.

My wife and I saw a commercial for Backyard Wrestling last night. It actually looked like fun. She hates wrestling if The Rock isn't in it but for some reason she was amused by a guy getting smacked in the face with a chair and another guy sentoning off a roof. This game deserves at least a rent.

With the word "shit" in the name of the promotion, do you blame them by calling it just JCW?

Shortly after, they began a very successful stint in the WWF/WWE, wrestled with such legends as Steve Austin and The Rock, and even appeared on the cover of WWF magazine! Jumping ship to the rival WCW, they formed the feared "Dead Pool" faction teaming with Vampiro and Raven to face such legends as Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, and Dean Malenko. Growing weary of the politics of the corporate wrestling entities, ICP put all their wrestling energy into JCW. Now they are leading the JCW invasion into the world of video games ... but they didn't come alone.

HA!!! successful my ass! I was a HUGE Vampiro mark, but for some reason, i hated him when he was with icp, although they did have a really cool song. This sounds like a game worth checking out, then shelving, nothing will ever hold a candle to Playstation's Smackdown and N64's No Mercy.

Well, I guess you learn something new everyday

I'm not blaming anyone in my rhetorical question. Besides, they specially call it "Juggalo Championship Wrestling."

Well, this probably doesn't count as being feared, but I do recall being slightly nervous when Mike Awesome powerbombed Scrappy D or whatever his name is on top of a bus and he nearly slid off onto his head.

I mean, he would've gotten face paint all over the arena.

That was a great WCW moment! To top it off, it happened on top of the 'Love Bus'. I miss That 70s Guy. Also, when did ICP wrestle Austin and Rock? Is it some forgotten tag match buried on Best of Raw Volume 27?

I wonder how many law suits this game will prompt. You just know some kids will copy what they see and film themselves hitting a senton off the roof of their house.

Well, the full name of the game is "Backyard Wrestling: Don't Try This at Home," and I'm sure there will be warnings and such whenever you load up the game. This isn't to say that lawsuits definately won't happen, but at least they're trying to cover their bases...

Edit: I could've sworn I put two quotation marks in there the first time...

ps2.IGN.com's review:

8.0   Presentation
The load times are a bit on the slow side but Eidos has captured the style and spirit of Backyard Wrestling perfectly.

6.0   Graphics
BYW's blood effects are awesome and the environments are cool but the character models aren't the most detailed. Clipping and collision proves to be a big problem in several areas.

8.0   Sound
A thunderous hard rock soundtrack and collection of funny commentary plays companion to all the proper sound effects.

6.5   Gameplay
It boasts some interesting ideas and gives players a freedom they don't normally enjoy in wrestling titles. The game's reliance on strikes and lack of defense, however, nullifies the grappling.

6.0   Lasting Appeal
Over 20 wrestlers, hidden video segments, and several game modes just aren't enough to please anyone but the dedicated fans.

6.5 OVERALL:(out of 10 / not an average)
