CNN: Anna Nicole Smith dead

I'm pretty shocked. I can't help but think there was a whole lot of damage done to this woman pretty early on, despite of the parody she eventually became.

Shocked? Really? I don't know. I had the impression that the type of lifestyle that she lived would lower the probability of living to a ripe old age. So I am not really that surprised, but perhaps I had the wrong impression.

The sad thing is, I couldn't see this ending any other way for her. I know that sounds morbid and heartless, but I just couldn't forsee her living to the ripe ol' age of 95...enjoying her fortunes. It's dissapointing, too.

Probably as America's favourite drunken, coked-up slut.

Or rather, that's what people will remember after the first few weeks. For now until... hm... the end of the month or so, we must pretend that this is an international tragedy. Like when John Ritter died. Or Christopher Reeve, though that's not a fair comparison as he was brave and courageous enough to fall off a horse first.

I mean seriously, I understand being surprised when something (relatively) unexpected happens, but Anna Nicole Smith did nothing and mattered not, but all over the internet (and, disturbingly, all through my workplace this afternoon), people are acting like the President got shot. By the Pope.

If you (meaning "random person who happens to read this") were a big Anna Nicole Smith fan, well then hey. That sucks for you. And you might be an okay dude, and I don't want things to suck for dudes who are okay (or better).

But if you - like so many of us - didn't care one way or another about her as of 24 hours ago? Then maybe the international day of mourning isn't really an appropriate response.

No one asked Canada, or the rest of the world to care. It's an American Tale you wouldn't be expected to understand

Heh..I care..somewhat.
It is tragic (not more tragic than if it happened to Jane Doe who I never saw on tv or in some magazine that will remain nameless, but not less tragic either)
Her trouble started the moment she married the old guy (weight issues, family issues, etc) and things just got worse. Very sad.

And yeah, she will probably not be remembered as Vickie Lynn Hogan(?), playmate of the year, not as Anna Nicole Smith, famous model. And maybe not even so much as the hot model that married the old geezer.
But as a very tragic figure.

Flea is correct. Unfortunately, it is a tale too many of us old farts understand and shake our head at. I was utterly amazed that any one is schocked as this is the way these Grimm's Fairy Tales normally end. One of the most fascinating things I have observed in my five decades is the cult of celebrity. Spears, Hilton, Smith, etc. are famous for being famous and bad behavior and have accomplished exactly nothing of note in their lives.

Flea you need a dead pool for these people.

I see where Flea's coming from on this, but I don't think that's how this is being portrayed in the media. This isn't "how tragic this woman self-destructed", this seems to be "the world has lost a great person" kinda coverage. Which is kinda crazy. The headline on Yahoo, for instance, is "Why We Cared About Anna - She Persevered When Others Would Have Given Up".

And in case I get a similar response, there were four of our national papers touting this as a front page story today, so we are getting our fair share of coverage.

American Tales cant be held liable for Pathos in the Media

(but don't expect Elton John to sing about how she lived her life like white trash at a free buffet)

I'm so there with you on this. People at my work were so sad, and it's been front page CNN news since it happened. I just don't get it. She was a crazy woman who did nothing of value and raised a half retard son that was dead before his mid 20's. I always felt sorry for him, knowing what his fate was gonna be with a mom like that.

No, in my view this was simply another reason to buy into what Darwin was selling.

She had a pretty important Supreme Court case, so she's important to me for that reason. And it's also kinda impressive how she went from working at a fried chicken shack to a Wal-Mart to Playboy. Rags to riches.

I'm not wearing all black and going into mourning, but I find it appalling how many people are taking this story as something that'll be good for a laugh. WWTDD, MJ Morning Show, I'm looking at you.

Well, not to pile on, but here's a wonderfully brutal video of Chyna Doll on Larry King last night talking about Anna's death. This whole thing is like a train wreck into which a plane crashed.

Dateline did a little story about this last night, and I found myself asking - is this really THAT important? But then again, it was the first item I clicked on when checking the news feed this morning.

well, now, at least Brits can sing a song a little bit, so I wouldn't put her in the category of Paris and Anna.

The latest news - that Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband is claiming Paternity of her child
http://cbs13.com/topstories/local_story_040140054.html

is kind of interesting, since Zsa Zsa is another one of those people famous for being famous. She's got a similar resume to Anna, from back in the 50s and early 60s.

Zsa Zsa made it to 90....
