I was watching a pay per view, don't remember the name, where Flair lost his World Title to Bret Hart (this is right before Flair teamed with Razor against Macho and Perfect) and the English announcer (Lord Alfred Hayes I believe?) was BRILLIANT! His calls with Gorilla's were nothing short of amazing and hilarious, and I really want to know more about the guy. I remember him rarely, (I was about twelve or thirteen at the time, originally), but seeing, or hearing him rather, again made me realize how good this guy was.

Also, where did he come from and what ever happened to him? I'm not even sure I got his name correct. But the guy was absolutely BRILLIANT! I can't say it enough.

Actually, it's NOT a tv taping, I watched it yesterday, it's some Coliseum Home Video pay per view. And yes, the guy was good. And no, I'm not kidding.

I can't believe some guy with a negative of a Final Fantasy picture is laughing at ME! Man. (snaps fingers)

EDIT: Oh, and after reading BobHollyRules Smackdown post, I agree with him. HE'S right!

Lord Alfred Hayes has been in the business for years. Bounced around the promotions back in the old territories days (I know no details of this, just that he did it) and eventually became a manager in the seventies I believe it was, for the AWA. He managed Bob Remus or Sgt. Slaughter as we know him. Anyway, as was the custom at the time, Vince brought him into Titan for the sake of bringing him in, and he was used sparingly as a backstage interviewer, magazine-show recapper, and coliseum home video host. These days, due to a wrestling injury combined with cancer (i'm not sure if it's both or one or the other), he's four inches shorter than he was. He was backstage at WM X-7 in Texas, but wrestling being the cosmetic biz that it is, he wasn't shown in any way, shape or form.

Awwww - Al Hayes ruled on Tuesday Night Titans! God, that was the worst show in human history. Vince, Heenan, Al Hayes and toss in the wrestler(s) of the week.

There was this one episode where some team, Lord knows which one it was, with mustaches and half unshaven, came out in drag to talk about their favorite tag team (whoever it was under the dresses). It might have been Butch and Luke, but I can't remember. It was Fernwood tonight meets confidential and Al Hayes was a big part of it.

Final Fantasy woulda been better, if ya ask me. It's really DBZ (or maybe the original Dragon Ball, or even DB GT).

Lord Alfred Hayes was a great heel in the 70's. His longest announcing stint was on "Prime Time Wrestling", from about 1988, up until it became RAW in January 1993. He usually teamed with Sean "Mr. Intensity" Mooney on several of the non-jobber matches that were exclusive to Prime Time. Throughout the course of PTW, he would also team with Tony Schiavone (most of 89), SuperStar Billy Graham (late 88), Ron Traumgard (late 88), Roger Kent (late 88) and occasionally, Gorilla. He was sort of their "C-level" announcer. "A" and "B" being Vince/Jesse and Gorilla/Heenan.

He's also famous for being the Ed McMahon to Bobby Heenan's Johnny Carson on the 3 episodes of the "Bobby Heenan Show". When PTW switched to a live audience format in mid 91, Alfred was the opening announcer and (along with Jamison) was often the butt of many lame jokes. There was a skit were the Rockers went on a quest to make Alfred "cool"... quality stuff like that.

He had some really....REALLY awful calls. One of my favorite was "err, ummm, yes Sean...Sam Houston is an exciting young... um, youngster"
