I finally got my account squared away for my 360 (gamertag Doc Whiskey by the way and yes the space is included in the name). I had 2 $20 prepaid cards for the marketplace and so far have picked up:
TMNT Arcade
Secret of Monkey Island
Mega Man 9
Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

I have 800 points left and would like recommendations for games that peeps think are worth getting. Genres don't matter as I play everything. I tried the demo of Braid because a lot of people told me that it was good, but to be honest I did not care for it. Anyways thanks for the help.

Off the top of my head, I have and would recommend:

Trials HD - it's like Excitebike reimagined as a physics-based puzzler. Sensational. Can get damnably hard.

Splosion Man - 2D platformer where stuff goes boom. Entertaining.

Bionic Commando Rearmed - a remake of the NES game with new graphics and all kinds of tweaks.

Pac-Man Championship Edition - Pac-Man, but faster and fancier, with all kinds of timed modes.

Uno - years after its launch, it's still never hard to find players online. You would be amazed at how much people will swear while playing Uno

Portal: Still Alive - first-person puzzler you probably already know about

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix - SFII, but in HD

Geometry Wars 2: the sequel to the first real XBLA hit; a fun arcade twitch shooter

Doritos Dash of Destruction - not great, but it's free (or at least it was - I assume this still exists)

I think you can get free demos for all of these.

To add to the above, I'll suggest Castle Crashers as well.

Age of Booty is a fun little pirate RTS, slightly inspired by Catan. Speaking of which...

CATAN! The gateway to hardcore boardgames, easy to learn, and over in 30 to 60 minutes.

I'll second Trials HD. That frigging game is addicting. Good luck with the expert tracks.

Kingdom for Keflings is pretty fun too.

It's a bit of an involved game, but I'd recommend Virtual-On : Oratorio Tangram. Fun once you get the hang of it (though the last boss is almost impossible to beat if you use any character other than Temjin, and you only get one shot at it. No continuing if you lose to Tangram.)

Gunstar Heroes is worth getting too, even if you already have it on the Genesis or the VC. But then, I like that game way too much, myself.

Doom and Doom 2 are out there too, if you still like those, and want to play them on your TV.

If Axis and Allies is available on that system, I'm getting one next month.

These are my recommendations. Please note with the exception of two titles (one of which I have on the VC, the other I'll be downloading in a couple of weeks) I actually downloaded all of these (legally) so I can attest to their quality.

Shooters: Ikaruga is an excellent 2d shooter, a throwback to the good ol' days. Yet they added some clever mechanics. I liked it so much that not only did I buy a GameCube copy off of e-bay but I also downloaded the Arcade version. Be forewarned; incredibly difficult.

Fighting Games: Marvel vs Capcom 2 if you like the frantic over-the-top style of fighters. Super Street Fighter II HD Remix if you're more into the technical side.

Beat'm Ups: Final Fight Double Impact. As a HUGE bonus, you also get MAGIC SWORD! A great deal if you like these kind of games.

Sidescrolling Shooters: I second the love for Gunstar Heroes. Frantic, fun gameplay.

Puzzle Games: Puzzle Quest, the original version. Highly innovative and fun.

Board Games: "Gateway" is the best term for Catan. Once you get started, you'll gradually want to play more and more obscure/hardcore board games. It has been considered "Gentlemen's Risk", although I assure you it can still be just as cut throat. Highly recommended both on Live and also by getting the actual board game. Now that I know some people here play it on Live I'll be downloading it accordingly.

Card Games: Uno, there is no other card game worth playing on Live.

Multiplayer: Castle Crashers, which essentially plays like Gauntlet. A must-have if you have people to play with.
