I like this better when I realized this was actually going to mean something in January and wasn't half discarded ideas turned into November filler. Still, it was pretty generic. You knew Jack's Good Friend was dead as soon as the association was made, you knew the scarf would come back into play much later (the mine field being brought up earlier was a subtler effort) and there was the usually 24 Government(/UN) officials with no heart for anything but bureaucracy getting in Jack's way of making the world a better place. This had nothing new to say, and the Redemption title makes zero sense, Jack's just doing what Jack does. (The first draft subtitle "Exile" works a little better.)
I still don't think they get people's problems with the torture bits. Yes, there's some drift from reality when the only way Jack seems to get information is by sticking an object into someone else, but I don't think most want an examination of the issue, they just don't want to see it once an hour. (Which is exactly what we got, once again.)
Presidents can come and go, but you can't be related to one (or a future one) without having an extraneous subplot of drama.

The part at the beginning where the jerk from the government subpoenaed Jack and said "You just got served!" to him was great, but that guy should have popped back up when Jack said "Go hide in the basement with the other children" to drop an "Ooooh shit, son, YOU just got served!" on the UN Guy.
The new Lady President has crazy eyes. I find it highly unbelievable that someone with crazy eyes like that could get elected.
I think they addressed the torture issue perfectly. Jack getting his ear burned with a machete made it clear that torture is bad. And Jack breaking that guy's neck with his legs made it clear that, if you don't like being tortured, you should use your legs to break the neck of the guy torturing you.
Tony didn't appear in Redemption, just in the previews, so it hasn't been explained yet. But the previews make it clear that, whatever the explanation is - Clone Tony, Tony Was A Robot, Mirror Universe Tony - Tony is an Evil Terrorist now, so this is awesome. | kentish

I wonder why they chose to let the cat out of the bag with Tony? It seems like that could've been a crazy surprise. | Above Average 1

I actually did this a few years back, watched three seasons of 24 in 3 weeks. You will be a crazy person. 100+ cliffhanger endings may turn your brain to mush. Use caution my friend.
And my only complaint about Redemption was the completely useless UN character whose only purpose seem to remind us that 24 is a Conservative right leaning themed show, in case we forgot during the hiatus. | Peter The Hegemon

That works...after the third season, you pretty much need to have your brain be mush not to be put off by all the plot holes and leaps of logic! [g,d,r!] | SKLOKAZOID

| #10 Posted on 28.11.08 0025.53 Reposted on: 28.11.15 0029.01 | Bought the DVD and watched it. I liked it, and it gave me some hope that Season 6 was just an anomaly in quality. I also liked that it was able to be self contained, but also had an influence on the overall show.
The DVD also has the first 16 minutes of the season premiere. Vague spoiler below.

Tony is addressed and, while they don't explain why he's still alive, they do lay the groundwork for it being plausible and make sure you know that it actually is Tony Almeida and not a clone/robot/etc. |
