Honestly, after such a great regular season, the fact that we got such a predictable final four is pretty depressing.

Well, the Lakers gave the Spurs every chance to come back last night. Both teams went brick-for-brick (or in Fisher's case, an airball) in the 4th and Kobe nearly gave it away with that baffling two-second possession at the end.

Say what you will about the whistle that wasn't blown at the end, but I'm just wondering why they threw the ball to Barry anyway (his hot hand, notwithstanding). After all these years, there's no reason that ball shouldn't have been in Robert Horry's hands. Period.

I'm still saying this goes 7. I have a bad feeling the Spurs steal one at Staples Center and if that happens, they'll come back with a vengeance at home in Game 6.

Nah, it's over. I had the Spurs winning in 7. But when you can't win while holding Kobe scoreless at the FT line (and it really wasn't that close until the 4th quater), you're going to have trouble getting one win against the Lakers, let alone three straight. As good a team the Spurs are, I just don't think they can match the energy of the Lakers now that Kobe will turn it up to make sure their ticket is sealed.

As for the east, looks like B-town got this series in hand with tonight's win. I think the Pistons are good enough to push it to 7 along with the fact that the Celtics are 0-2 in game 6's. But I think that while Detroit hasn't had to play an elimination game until now, the Celtics have and have shown they can get it done when needed (albeit at home). I'm pretty sure the finals will be looking really similar to those great series between Larry and Magic by the time they are all set up.

You know how they always make "200X CHAMPIONS!!" shirts for BOTH teams in a championship game, then all of the shirts for the team that ends up LOSING go to starving kids in Ethiopia?

I bet the networks have already started making 1980s-Celtics/Lakers-morphing-into-2008-Lakers/Celtics video packages & montages. And I bet they're awesome.

The Celtics should go into Game 6 with 1 item as the focus: Pick up Technical #7 on Wallace and get him suspended for Game 7. Send Big Baby, send Powe, hell send Scalabrini now that he is out of the Witness Protection Program, just bait him into a T.
At some point do the Pistons just say screw it and trap for 48 minutes? If somehow Boston adjusts they get blown out of the building, but, what has Boston done to show that they can adjust?

Congrats to the Lakers and Celtics for making it to the 2008 NBA Finals! It was a long journey for both teams but in the end, the NBA got it right, showcasing the two teams the entire world wanted to see (without exception), since the NBA title is really about a popularity contest.

I look forward to 74,319 replays of the mentor-student interview between Russell and KG along with 612,904 replays of Larry Legend and his blond perm flopping down the court in his nut huggers. I'm just hoping they show continual shots of Jack Nicholson taunting the Celtics bench throughout the series because his visage looks absolutely wonderful in HD.

Just in case, I'll watch the last few games to make sure our long national nightmare is finally over.

(Where the hell was everyone during the first four games of both series? You know, when it was still in doubt?)

Actually, the Celtics have yet to play in an elimination game during these playoffs ... Everytime their series have been tied, they've triumphed in order to stay one step ahead of their opponents.

Game 7s are elimination games.

Good question! But other than Ray Allen's poor shooting and The Foul That Wasnt But Was Afterall, there hasnt been very much drama in these WC/EC Finals.

If this was really the case, how do you explain your 2004 Champion Pistons?

Or even the Spurs/Pistons finals from '05 that David Stern wishes to never speak of again? Or even the Spurs/Cavs from last year that David Stern wishes to never speak of again? If it was all about popularity, Stern would have struck while the Phoenix iron was hot.

And the irresistable sarcasm meets the immoveable tongue-in-cheek.

I'm sure Joey Crawford is excited to see the Lakers reach the Finals again. By the way, I hope that IF it ends up being Lakers/Celtics in the Finals that all of the 20-year old nostalgia satisfies your appetite because I'm gonna be laughing if Game 1 ends up being a 76-72 Celtics win.

EDIT: Speaking of nostalgia, someone page Dave Corzine.

I'd take it as a 66-64 win like the Celtics had over the Pistons in the '02 playoffs, but I haven't declared the Pistons dead yet in this series, unless Hamilton is hampered and Wallace mentally implodes and gets the magic T. Does the Flip/Rasheed marriage end if the Pistons don't reach the Finals this year, with possibly Rasheed being reunited with Larry Brown in Carolina?
As for Joey Crawford, I'm sure he would have been happy if Memphis knocked off the Spurs.

Boston or Detroit....It doesn't matter. Either way the Championship Series turns into a great nostalgia. Either renewing (Boston) or reaffirming (Detroit).

......oh yeah, did I mention.....

You know, just for the record, I'm a lot more stoked about the idea of Lakers/Pistons than I am about Lakers/Celtics.

As great as it would be to renew the 80's rivalry, I can't forget that the Lakers started their downward spiral when they lost the '04 Finals to...(wait for it)...the Detroit Pistons. I would love to see the Lakers truly and emphatically put the turbulent three years that followed behind them by avenging their '04 loss to the Pistons and bringing it all full circle.

Yes, it would actually satisfy me more than the Lakers showing KG that he picked the wrong trading partner.
