Okay, as I started the "My god, episodes 1/2 sucked" thread, only fair I kick off the next by saying My God, episode 3 ruled.

And it ruled because it did everything right that 1/2 did wrong. The pacing was steady and reasonable. They kept things constrained to a few storylines instead of trying to rapid-fire visit everything. They didn't dump eighteen TWEESTS on us. And the characters used their powers in logical ways without conveniently forgetting they were capable of doing things that would've helped them in their situation.

I'm also VERY happy that "Hiro and Ando can't trust each other" is being played entirely for laughs and lampshade hanging. Those two work best in comedy mode with only light smatterings of angst; if they made it as melodramatic as some of the other threads it'd get tired fast. Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, et all.

If the show calms the hell down and focuses on storytelling, like it did this week, then we'll be good to go for a solid season. We've got a dose of Mohinder coming up next, though... given his plot in the first ep was the pinnacle of stupid writing, we'll see if they can redeem Suddenly Power-Mad and Sex-Crazed "The Fly" Ripoff Mohinder.

Okay, I gotta ask ... Is "TWEEST" anything more than just a silly way to spell "twist"?

And good episode last night ... still very confusing though (why exactly did Sylar willingly go back to his cell after he willfully broke the rules and killed one of the villains in PLAIN VIEW of Noah while letting another villain run away even though he COULD HAVE USED HIS FORCE POWERS TO STOP HIM?).

Either a) he just really wanted the vocal force power thingy, or b) he wanted to give his newly gained can see the history of any object power thing and wanted to see if he could get any of Peters powers from dudes brain.

The Sylar story seems to be that he's an adict, and that he can't stop himself from grabbing new powers when he gets the chance. The flip side is that he currently seems like he maybe wants to try and stop, so that's (maybe?) why he went back to his cell. It's a novel way to go with the character, but I'm not sure how well it fits with his previously established persona. I do like that Bennett's last line was "I'm just with him until I figure out his weakness. Then I'm going to kill him."

I'll be quickly shouted down if I'm wrong but I believe it's a loving homage to "Robot Chicken's" M. Night Shyamalan character, whose catchphrase phonetically approximates as "Wot a tweest!"

That reminds me ... now that Present Peter has been in direct contact with Future Peter, has he absorbed all of the powers that he was going to pick up in the future (without actually having to meet any of these unnamed super-powered beings, like the guy who will be able to hide people inside other people's bodies, for example)?

I wouldn't go so far as to say it ruled. But it was far better than last week.

Best moment: Sylar pretending to be an FBI agent. "Go get us some coffee. Decaf!" Priceless! The Sylar/Noah plot worked well, including the bank robbery and such, although I too would like to know why Sylar went back to detention. I can give that the benefit of the doubt for the moment, though. Claire and her mother worked well (and, well, it was hot, if you'll pardon the unfortunate pun). The Niki/Jessica/Tracy thing was explained surprisingly well and it looks like they're going somewhere with that.

On the other side of the coin (I was tempted to turn this into a workrate report) Hiro is still behaving like an unbelievable idiot, and the whole Parkman thing does nothing for me. At least we got a week without Mohinder and Maya!

The only thing I don't get is why is Future Peter being such an ass towards his past self? I guess they aren't the same guy, since Future Peter should be able to remember where he was and what happened while he was stuck in some other guy's body, and since Future Peter has changed the Future, then this Peter's going to wind up a different Peter, but still... I'd like to think if Future Me ever came back and had to do stuff, I'd have the courtesy to sit down with myself and explain it instead of recklessly hiding me in some other guy's body.

It seems that now that they're repositioned all the peices, they can slow down and let things play out as needed. I still feel like Sylar being a lost Petrelli is shoe-horned in, though.

(Minor nitpick: if Nikki died in the fire, why did her corpse look so undamaged?)

I figure that Syler let the one go, and then went back to detention simply so that they'd let him go hunt that guy down again. Preferably after he made some more "special" contacts.

I thought that was kinda rushed, like "oh hi. are you special? here, let me show you you're my mom's long lost twin"

What I found interesting was the doctor's reply when he saw her. "I created you"
Which makes me think that Mohinder wasn't the first to experiment, and yes, there are several ways to get powers.
Seems the Petrelli family & friends got them via their dna while others (Niki&clones, Mohinder, and I suspect most of the random people you see getting killed by Sylar) get them via experimenting.

Good episode. I liked that there was a 9th wonder comic in the hut of the painter guy.
And apparently his power is really hidden in a walkman since Parkman's eyes glazed over too?

Loved the episode.

Sylar didn't willingly go back into custody. The Haitian presence gave Sylar no choice. Sylar has been around The Haitian before. He knew that there was no point in resisting. I agree however that he has high hopes of being allowed to hunt again.

I can't stand Micah. I like him more than Mohinder. That's not saying much though. I dunno, he just annoys me.

Is it Nikki's sister or is it a clone? After Dr. Zimmerman's statement "I created you". I'm not really sure. At least I was barking up the right tree last week though.

Francis Capra gets two episodes because Sylar isn't smart enough to go after the guy who feeds on fear?

Better than last time but still rushed.

I really hope Claire's going after Claude. Or Kensai, since everyone has to tease a heel turn this season.

I'm going to miss Micah. And his cousin the Taskmaster.

I don't miss Flying Boy.

Bringing the painting back in kind of cheapens Isaac's death for me. Can we even be sure Parkman's in the present?

Also:
I'm calling Nathan (or Claire) being adopted so Claire's love for Peter isn't icky. Maybe Nathan got switched with Sylar to either prevent the Petrelli family from being a nuclear superpower or because Angela saw Sylar eat Peter. Or Kensai's her father.

Or maybe it's something really stupid like mind transfer (Jessica's power?) and Future Claire isn't Clair but Ali Larter/Angela Petrelli/Ric Flair.

One more thing: Is Daddy P really dead? And what did he do? I'd always assumed the dreaming power was his, and now I don't know what Peter inherited from him.

One more one more thing: Noah's dialogue seemed to indicate he thinks Angela is normal ("one of us, one of them.") which could be interesting. Or barely touched on and forgotten about.

I noticed that too. I think that most people don't know that Angela has a power or that she uses her "hands on face to get you to do what I want power" to make people forget that she has a power.

But ... the Haitian wasn't at the bank.

EDIT: One more thought from this episode ... Daphne's lucky she has the gift of super-speed, because she looks like a total tool when she runs at normal speed.

Agree, but Sylar wasn't exactly in custody (to his knowledge) at the bank either. Sylar was at the bank because his new mommy told him that he could be part of the team...or something along those lines. The Haitian didn't need to be there, Sylar had no reason to resist during the bank scene, he was part of the team, he wanted to be there.

I'm betting future Peter isn't Peter, but someone else in his body. Remember how he can do that? Plus it makes Mama Petrelli's "what have you done with my son" make a little more sense. I bet they save this fact for a mid-season twist.

My guess - Noah Bennett! (First Scene in series... Claire saying "I always loved you" kind of makes sense now also).

And as much as I love jaded-Guerilla-Warrior Future Peter and Future Hiro, I sometime want to see a non-distopian future where they're just hanging out playing Dominos or something sometime. Or basically, see other, different types of "Future-Selves" than we've seen so far.

The casting director obviously has a huge hard-on for young sassy blonds. I actually though the Speedster and the Electric Girl were the same person at first.

Syler's character is making no sense (not that he ever really did) mostly because he's suffering from a severe case of "cool heel" syndrome. The writers have created litterally the most powerful person on Earth, but now don't know what to do with him, and can't write him out or make him a 100% heel because the audience likes his character. I think he'll eventually wind up kind of irrelevant or as comic relief. He's kind of reminding me of the way Sawyer's character went on Lost.

The problem with both Peter and Sylar is they are just way too powerful for the show. They always have to find a way to negate their power is loss of memory, the power stealing virus or screwing with their heads not to use their powers. It was probably a better decision not to let Sylar get his powers back and make a way for him to get some powers back and not all of them. I still think they will make a major heel after all of this is done especially with the dream sequence with him, Adam, Jessica, Echo and Nightmare Man killing all of the Heroes.

I am loving this season though and I do think we will start seeing the Heroes team-ups come sooner then later this year.

Oh Adam and Parkdad were in the dream sequence? I thought Sylar's crew were the Villains who broke out, which is why I thought it was odd that two of them were killed right away. I guess the same tough love that Orton has shown Rhodes and DiBiase was on display when Sylar murdered Weevil. I hope they bring in Wallace Fennel with Gambit powers to replace him.
