I can't believe Jack Bauer kills a guy BY BITING HIM IN THE NECK and no one bothers to start a thread about it!!! (Where are the Lost Boys references?)

I like how Fox seemed to blow through the first hour, ending it a good five minutes early, so we could get five minutes of previouslies for the hour we just watched. Seriously though, they're more or less ignoring the concept of "how long does something take in real time", aren't they? I know this isn't new (I might as well complain about MTV not playing any videos), but for what they are doing, why not just abandon the whole 24-hour concept altogether? They can still flash the time whenever they need, but at least it wouldn't be all Jack just blinked and entered 2 lines of text data onto a cell phone. (And who's car was that, anyway? I kept expecting someone to show up while Jack was having that conversation in the car.)

Are Bill and Karen the new Tony and Michelle?

I don't like Curtis' reduced role this year. The fact that he wasn't even listed with the main cast concerns me...

She's a bit annoying but I do like Nadia... She will, of course, prove to be a mole for Fayed or something.

Wow, listening to Regina King, I could still hear Huey and Riley from the Boondocks. I kept imagining Huey arguing with the FBI agents and not her. Just how many Palmer children were there? Where was she for her brother's funeral?

This looks to be another typical 24 season. I'll be looking forward to it with a well suspended sense of disbelief.

You believe me, don't you?
Please believe what I just said...

The end of Season 5 wasn't Palmer's funeral. It was merely a ceremony where the President was seeing his casket off and addressing the nation after the terror attacks before it was shipped back to Washington for the real funeral. When Ford died recently, there were similar multi-day ceremonial things going on.

It is awfully convenient that there's yet another Palmer sibling.

I wasn't all that excited for this season, but when it started back up, my 24 fanaticism took over like it never left. Suicide bombings is new and all hell breaking loose as the day BEGINS is something new for the show. The stuff I liked best about the premiere was Jack walking right into bizarro world, where there's a President Palmer, he's teaming with terrorists, and he can tell just by looking at people whether they can be tortured or not.

Kiefer's going to have to have that makeup job for the rest of the season. That's pretty nuts.

He got that season 3 Salazar gang tattoo made permanent so he wouldn't have to keep having the makeup artist re-draw it every episode, so I wouldn't discount the possibility that he'll have someone slice him up so those scars are real. Or I guess they could have him stop taking his shirt off, but that'd be the wiener way out.

I don't like the reduced role of Curtis either. With the absence of Aaron Pierce and Mike Novick the characters I like on the show have dwindled to Jack and Curtis. All the Jack/terrorist stuff is good I especially liked Jack taking a bite out of crime and Jack and Assad playing Good Interrogator, Bad Interrogator. But other than that I find the CTU stuff and the White House stuff rather boring without Tony, Michelle, David, Pierce and Novick.

I miss our old favorite staffers, as well. Anyone else slightly bothered by the youthful look of CTU these days? Milo looks like he just graduated from college, and Nadia not much older. I don't imagine our nation's highest law-enforcement positions are filled by kids fresh out of the Poli Sci program at Georgetown.

But I'm getting away from the main point: Jack Bauer ate a man's neck. Rock on.

The youth of CTU is probably just coincidence in casting. But considering that most of CTU was wiped out last season, it is not bad continuity for CTU to be forced to be younger and more inexperienced, since they had to almost completely replace the whole staff.

And I guess we know now why Curtis had a reduced role.

Well, so far, no moles have appeared in CTU, the bad guys haven't pulled a plan that requires months of preparation but that fits with events that happened an hour ago out of their asses, and 24 is kicking ass. I like. I *hated* last season, and the second part of the previous season, but I'm happy with this season so far. I like having Wayne as President and I totally dig having Dr. Bashir in the intriguing role of the terrorist who wants to make peace.

There's a guy on Usenet who writes parodies of the episodes; check these out. I find them hilarious. Don't read them if f-bombs and such bother you, though. (And, of course, if you haven't watched the first two hours, these will be spoilers.)

Since we've just been adding to the thread...

Wow. They finally followed through on a nuclear threat! What a badass way to start the season off.

I will definitely miss Curtis, he was one bad-ass mofo.

This was in the broadcast preview for next week, but just to play it safe,

I am really looking forward to some resolution on the Bluetooth gang from last season.

Is anyone buying the premiere DVD for the sneak preview? I really have to give some marketing guy credit, talk about milking the audience for the last possible dollar.

The ride continues...

All the pieces are here, but there's something off about the execution this season. I mean, you have the nuclear threat, a Jack that doesn't have the stomach for the job anymore because of his time in Chinese prison, and so far no hint of Kim or Audrey. So far, so good. But except for Jack's neck-bite kill and subsequent Batman-esque escape, nothing's really been doing it for me. Maybe they'll have Milo do something awesome and get me back on board.

Sad to see Curtis go, but it made sense storywise, and no one is ever safe on this show.

Milo needs to shave that creepy, teenage child molester mustache. It was fine on Six Feet Under, but doesn't work in this role. Speaking of, I doubt any president would ever get away with wearing a goatee, let alone a shaved head.

I would like to have seen more of Jack in prison, but oh well. It also seemed like he bounced back from his social anxiety very fast, but maybe that was an act so he would not appear as much of a threat to the terrorists. And then he bit one of their necks out.

So we get that bit of violence Sunday night, and then the dad bashing that other guy's skull into the concrete both during the 8:00 family hour. I am surprised they didn't have to bump those scenes back until after 9. Perhaps I watch too many cable shows, and didn't realize how loose the network censors are now.

Watch the Day 6 prequel on the Season 5 DVD set. It's only about 5 minutes long, but it's set 7 months after the Chinese took Jack and you get a nice little taste of what he went through over there. It's pretty great (except that Jack's 7-month beard is exactly the same as his 20-month beard. I doubt the Chinese gave him a trim every so often.).

As for this season, it's firing on all cylinders for me. It's interesting to see Jack finally have limits. I know he broke down a little at the end of Day 3, but that's nothing compared to this. From the previews, it looks like he sucks it up next week, but I still want to see more of BrokenJack.

Thankfully there weren't too many things that made us question our suspension of disbelief. OK, Jack finding a car that happened to have a cell phone with GPS capabilities was a little too convenient. And the bomb-maker that escaped from prison seemed to teleport from Palmdale to Valencia. But there was nothing as bad as last season's "Hoodie of Invisibility" and Jack steering a plane with his belt.

I have always liked Wayne Palmer but I don't by him as President. He seems like he is always whispering. Regina King is good (and hot) so I dig the plot line with her and Walid so far.

The Curtis thing was a bit to forced I think. Plus if Jack is such a good shot that he can shot Curtis while he is holding Assad in front of him, then I have to believe he could have shot him somewhere other than the neck.

The problem is that we have come to expect the unexpected. The end of 9:00-10:00 was not a surprise or as shocking as it would have been in the first or second season.

All that being said I am enjoying the show thus far. It is more entertaining than most television.

My favorite moment so far was the CTU Ninja squad using the garrote. I don't see the good guys using that too much lately. I skipped season 3 so was this the first time a CTU attack team got beat? And it only took a small nuke to do it.

Poor little Ahchmed is the most unsympathetic terrorist ever. Boo-hoo you can't pronounce my name. I have a polish last time and if I murdered everyone that's every butchered it I'd have to kill more men than small pox.

After the explosion and before the previews I was really hoping that the whole terrorist thing would be wrapped up quickly so Jack could proceed to get crazy on the chinese. They could very well put together the greatest season of television ever but if the show doesn't end with Jack killing that chinaman it will be absolute garbage to me.

It would have been funny if his primary target to blow up was a White Castle

This season so far is alot better than last season. Last year's first 4 hours were clearly written for the premiere (Sunday cliffhanger was terrorists taking control of the terminal, Monday's saw the reveal that they were really after nerve gas), and while ultimately that was the case this year what with a nuclear bomb going off and the death of a JTTS CTU agent, at least Sunday's two hours paced things out better.

The real time isn't too mangled yet, although Jack did link up with Assad awfully quick at 8 am. And as mentioned before, that detainee got to the terrorist safe house pretty damn quick. I don't read spoilers or watch previews, so I'm curious how they're going to get the other 4 suitcases to detonate now that the guy who can do it is dust.

On another side note, was Jack close enough to the blast to take in radiation?

I'm on the fence with Wayne as President, but I find it interesting that he's the first 24 president to disregard the whole "The US does not negotiate with terrorists" position.

Are you kidding? The first President and Palmer negotiated with terrorists. David gave a code word out in a press conference and ordered jack to shoot the former CTU head. Logan gave up the Russian president. The bigger question is why do they KEEP doing it, when the terrorists renege every single time. Wayne Palmer fell for it twice in two hours.

And how many times does Jack have to save the country before SOMEONE believes him when he says something?

And I really loved the "Jack has lost his fastball" angle, but I hate the fact that he had to kill Curtis to get it back.

If a nuke actually went off in Valencia, basically everyone in LA would be taking in radiation. Since I doubt they'll have the entire cast re-enact the last hours of George Mason next season, I'm presuming they'll all be saved by the winds blowing the other direction or something.

Responding to the hype we have heard the past two weeks about this show, my wife and I finished the final Season 1 episode last night. We were hooked by the end of episode one. I was just curious if any other W's have checked this show out?
