How about Bonds, huh?

4th player ever to be in the 600 club, 1st player in 31 years to be a member. Congrats, Barry - worked quite a while for it, but you've got it now. Another 60 to your idol.

You think he can get that?

I think he'll pass Mays and probably reaching 700, but for some reason I don't think he'll reach Ruth or the Home Run King Aaron because of injury and age.

If he avoids injury I think he gets to #2. I don't think he can get to 755, but I do think he could get to 714. I'm not really a huge Bonds fan, but I don't think there's much doubt he's the best player I've ever seen.

Granted, A-Rod could take that title.

FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! And I turned off the Braves game, which was split-screen with his at-bats, right when he was stepping up to do it.

At least I caught 71.

Dont feel bad Jubuki... I work In a bar and we were watching baseball tonight I think, when Barry got to the plate they cut over to it. I was standing outside checking Ids when everybody screamed as it sailed over the wall. DAMMITDAMMITDAMMIT was all I could say.

I was glad to see all Barrys teamates come out and meet him at the plate, that was cool considering how none of them can stand him.

Also, did you see the guy that caught the ball? The crimson mask effect was nice...lol.

Barry can make 700 if he wants to play two or three more years, I dont think his health will get in the way.

I think he is more likely than not to pass by 755 with little problem... and if he can get himself to the American League where he can DH, he can probably play pretty much forever.

Eh.... i dunno. It would be a shame to hear that bonds uses steroids. I am not a big fan of his.. but i respect the guy and what he's accomplished.

This Barry Bonds steroids stuff isn't fair. Period.

You have no more reason to believe he is than he isn't.

Check his swing now and his swing three years ago, it's faster and better. You don't get a faster swing from steroids. Could he be on them? Yes, but unless you have evidence of it, insinuating that he is isn't right.

Barry Bonds HAS formally admitted he's on some sort of performance enhancing drugs. I think it was AP who reported it or something like that, but he did admit to the press.

Unless I'm mistaken, his enhancing drug of choice is....

Creatine. Nothing exactly to be breaking down the doors for, demanding for testing. It's not anything to be worried about... although it could explain his hammy problems.

Nah, creatine isn't THAT kind of performance enhancer - the ones that typically result in muscle/tendon/ligament tears are steroids or hormones. Creatine is nothing more than an energy molecule we all have in our bodies in varying levels; when we break down food for energy, we typically make ATP, which is less energetic than creatine. By taking creatine, you give your muscles another way to make ATP in addition to burning calories, though it's usually not a substantial benefit; just enough of one to push you over the hump when you need it.

Never thought Id see the day when Guru was sipping on the Haterade. Its not like Bonds was a nobody before he hit 73 last year. The guy has pretty much been the best player in the game for the last 10 years. Even if he hadnt hit 73 last year, at his usual pace he probably still would have passed 600 in a year or so.

Bonds... has been very consistent... consistently good. I would be very surprised if he was taking anything as drastic as steroids. He takes care of himself... and injuries haven't plagued him too much. I wonder how many home runs he'll end the year with.

The main difference between a Bonds on creatine and a Bonds on steroids is that creatine is legal and steroids is not. Yeah, maybe it isn't the purest record on earth(like when McGwire was on the andro when he hit 70) but it's still damn impressive.

If you really want to throw somebody under the bus on steroids, how about Brady Anderson when he hit 50.

Fair enough. But the progression from Bonds hitting 49 to Bonds hitting 73(or for that matter McGwire from 49 to 58 to 70 or even Sosa hitting 66) isn't nearly as insane as Anderson's jump to 50 considering that he never hit more than 21(I think) any other year.

I don't like Bonds. I'll admit it.

Still, I find it highly suspicious that a guy "gets it" and all of the sudden, at 37 years old, hits 50% more home runs than he ever has in his career.

My office mate swears it has to be LASIK surgery that made the difference. I suppose that argument could be made as well.

I'm just happy the Marlins are relevant in the off-season for once, and I don't just have to hibernate until February. Reyes was my #1 hope that the Marlins got this winter, even above Pujols, Buehrle, and CJ Wilson. Ramirez now expected to move to 3B.
