I've been away from the comic shop for a while, but managed to finally pick up the last two issues of 52 and I didn't regret doing so. They were good reads and are still sending the series in the right direction.

WEEK 8:
-This issue, as surmised before, focused on Steel. It's learned that Irons' skin is transforming into actual steel. Irons believes that Lex set him up, but fails to put away the doctor's notes, because Natasha goes on to discover them. Oops.
-Ralph Dibny's search for the Cult of Conner leads him to Star City. He and Green Arrow (the second A-list hero of the series so far) try and ambush them, but find that they already escaped. Ralph explains that these people believe the dead can come back to life...before he realizes who he's talking to.
-A new hero has hit Metropolis! No, it's not Booster Gold and he's pissed off. As Booster rants, Skeets notices a reporter taking notes, leading to Booster challenging the reporter to find out who this new guy is. The reporter (some guy named Clark Kent) vows to do so.
-Animal Man and Adam Strange seek out the missing Starfire. They fall into the trap of Guy In Galactus Suit.
-After assuming that her father had taken up Lex's offer for superpowers, Natasha heads out to do the same. Smelling blood, Lex brings her in first and the issue ends with Steel's niece strapped to machinery while Lex looks on, knowing he's found himself a new slave.

WEEK 9:
-After the events of the last issue, John Henry Irons is pissed. With his skin now made purely of steel, Irons makes a beeline for Lex Luthor. Before he can exact any revenge, though, here comes Natasha and five super-unknowns. Natasha then procedes to wipe the floor with her uncle, leaving him in a heap and cementing her heel turn.
-Guy In Galactus Suit is named. He is Devilance The Pursuer, which ranks fairly high on the "lame nickname" list. Devilance reveals that the heroes stood at the center of the universe, which is knowledge only the gods can hold. He doesn't his prey for long, though, as Animal Man and Adam Strange arrange an escape while Starfire ends Devilance's day rather quickly. However, they're STILL being watched.
-Montoya's catching the game at the local bar in Gotham. She runs into a random blue-collared guy...who asks her about her arm. She quickly guesses that she's found The Question. Taking her into an alley, Q reveals his secret transformation sequence to Montoya and reveals just what the source of the warehouse attack was. Question reveals that Intergang has targeted Gotham...and as he says this, the new Batwoman looks on from the rooftops.

THOUGHTS:
More stories are starting to move forward, which is pleasant to see. Devilance provided some valuable exposition and the revelation that Adam Strange, Animal Man, and Starfire have another unknown watching them leads me to believe that this will be the source of the "52" menace that's been vaguely hinted at thus far. The next issue hits streets tomorrow, so more answers should be forthcoming. It's been a fun ride, so far.

Enough about 52 already!!!

I'm a big comic book fan and I don't want to sound rude, but enough is enough.

This is a 52 part story. I'd rather read the Wall Street Journal than read 43 more of these posts. I'm also waiting for it to come out in a trade to read it all at once.

In book terms this story has 52 chapters. You can't post after every chapter. Read the whole book and then give a good report.

All these 52 books are doing is burying some really good comics that should be talked about instead. Civil War is good. Justice (Alex Ross) is the best miniseries this year. Sensational Spiderman 26 was great. The X-Men Shiar War looks interesting. lets keep things in perspective.

Or.... You could ignore these posts about 52 and post your own threads about the things you deem more important (Civil War, Justice, etc). If it's about something interesting, people will read those too. Part of the fun of 52 has been to see the constant evolution as it happens.

I, for one, am enjoying these updates. I've been reading 52 myself and it's fun to see what I've missed and get a different perspective on things, especially since each issue tends to have a lot of material in it.

Couple observations/corrections though:

- John Henry is Natasha's uncle, not her father. She also found out about his new powers when the doctor called and told her John was now a meta, not when she found notes.
- I was under the impression that Devilance just woke up, not that someone else was watching Strange et al. The art was a little unclear, but that's the impression I got.

It's all good stuff though and I'm really enjoying the progression of the series...

Ditto in enjoying these updates, especially when I haven't had the chance to grab every issue thus far. Additionally, in defense of It's False - not that he really needs defending against an argument where the simplest answer (though it may sound rude and blunt) is "then don't read the threads" - lately he's been doing two weeks of issues updated at a time.

Also, regardless of the number of issues in the series, isn't this sort of akin to complaining about threads that pop up for every episode of a television series?

As mentioned in the previous 52 thread, I like the updates too. I just thought I'd pile on with the rest....

It takes me awhile before I can get my hands on and read the issues....so please continue with these summaries, it's False. I appreciate them.

To celebrate the passing of the Troll Amnesty (and for otherwise no reason at all), I present to you the very best of Trolling here on The W. This Troll Moment of the Week is brought to you by;

"aftershock14520" , who brought us such pieces as wisdom as: "I'm not in the position to defend this topic really, you know obviously, but it takes only common sense to realize that "hey... if world trade center 7 was imploded, and the twin towers looked like they were, maybe they were?" and you can get all the facts in the world to prove that wrong, but there is just so much more facts to just prove it right. Pwnd."

Guru Zim: "Did you just turn to "pwned" as a method of argument?"

I've got them all - some are actually tough to find. Each one will take you about an hour to get through. It's the easiest reading this side of Dick and Jane. He also wrote a couple of spy novels starring "Tiger Mann" - there's a name.
