I picked up this week's 52 today and realized that I hadn't posted last week. And much to my surprise, CRZ helpfully put up a 52 icon. So with new icon in tow, here's a look at the past two issues of 52.

Week 2:
-Breaking news! Booster Gold has thwarted the attack of Manthrax! And faster than you can ask "Who the hell is Manthrax and is that REALLY the best villain name he can come up with?", Booster is seen cutting the guy in the Manthrax suit a check. Yeah, it's to the point where Booster is staging crimes. A seemingly arbitrary plot point becomes important later.
-52 brings out the first of the A-Listers in the form of Hal Jordan. Hal and John Stewart are chasing Evil Star, who is smuggling intergalactic weaponry, into Chinese airspace. They quickly find resistance in the form of Chinese costumed metahumans. They try and take out the Lanterns, seeing them as invaders. Hal tries to explain the situation to no avail, as the Chinese pledge to take care of Evil Star as soon as they remove the invading GL's.
-T.O. Morrow is under house arrest (with the house stripped of EVERYTHING) for turning one of the prison guard's iPods into a "Sonic Disintegrator Ray", which is unspeakably cool for some reason. The big reveal here is that he's being watched.
-With the Chinese proving to be a huge pain, John Stewart decides to end the fight with Evil Star quickly. The GL's have him in custody until BLACK ADAM~! attacks! Adam reveals that he's formed a growing coalition with China, North Korea, and Myanmar (I sense a theme here). Adam says that more nations are joining his coalition and America had better watch out, yessir.
-The issue ends with Booster seeking time travel expert Dr. Rip Hunter. He helps himself into the doctor's complex and finds complicated equations that all conclude that "Time Is Broken". And as you might expect, the source appears to be Booster.

Week 7:
-On the planet of God-Knows-Where, Adam Strange has come to realize that something's lurking out there, so it'd be best to beat a hasty retreat. But he seems to be the only one working on the spaceship. Adam senses that the planet's fruit is affecting Starfire.
-Booster Gold is on the phone with a collection agency when he gets an inopportune visit from Ralph Dibny, looking for information on the newly-dubbed Cult of Conner. But Booster's 5 minutes away from thwarting a future disaster. Putting two and two together, though, Ralph suddenly remembers that Booster's from the future and furiously asks the logical question: "Why the hell didn't you warn me my wife was going to die?" Booster has no answer and heads off to thwart the disaster in question, inviting Ralph to watch him in action.
-Renee Montoya interrogates ex-flame Kate Kane regarding the building in which she and The Question fought the large lizard.
-Booster thwarts the disaster, except it's actually supposed to be an open demonstration of Lex's new supergene program. And if matters couldn't get worse, here comes Manthrax to let Booster know that his check bounced, so he lets Lois Lane and the rest of the media know that Booster paid him off. Seeing this, Ralph completely (and publicly) lays into Booster, culminating with a big "you let everyone down", including a "You let Ted down". Ouch!
-The issue ends with Starfire flying to an isolated portion of the planet. There she finds...oh lord...Galactus called: he wants his suit back.

Week 6 stumbled. Does comics NEED another Anti-American coaltion storyline? Especially when Marvel is doing it so much better? Week 7 was slightly better, as the story with Booster (the only one who's been in every issue) FINALLY takes an interesting turn. Leave it to Ralph to shake things up a bit. Nothing else to see here, though. Week 8 looks to focus on Steel, which should be interesting. Until next week...

I must admit that, finally, after 7 weeks, 52 worked for me with Week 7, and it worked really well. The intro to Kate Kane and the Ralph/Booster exchanges were spot on. Plus, the Strange/Buddy/Starfire subplot has my attention.

I hope that starts a roll for this book. Thus far for me it's been so-so.

FYI, I'm too cheap to pick up the series, but I'm really enjoying your recaps. Thanks....

A bit of nitpickery about a previous run-down, the Titan fused with Red Tornado is Malcolm (Mal) Duncan, AKA The Herald, and not Victor (Cyborg) Stone, who is fused with Firestorm.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

A few days late on this, weekend was busy. Superman is barely in it but there's plenty of Oliver and Chloe, Lex and Tess and Otis. Also, Hank Henshaw has a new robot body and he's not that excited about it. (
