Workers of the world, unite! There is no finer way to celebrate May Day than to buy a DVD and then frolic around a maypole! We may not have a maypole, but we've got 171 DVDs (along with 41 Blu-ray releases) which you can get ... well, 5/3, but that's the closest Tuesday TO May Day, so work with me here.
PICK OF THE WEEK The PJs: Season 1 (The W at Amazon) (FOX, 1999) Wow. Just...wow. This was one of those things you just never really thought would be out on DVD, and yet here we are. Sometimes, the funniest show on TV. Sometimes, just incredibly awful, cringe inducing, and possibly racist. And SOMETIMES...all of the above all at once. The voice of Eddie Murphy, combined with the the "foamation" of Will Vinton Studios. I hear tell that some of the music rights may have necessitated some replaceent, which is always troubling, but I have to admit, I would probably have no memory of ANY of those bits or I probably would have complained about it when I caught the show on Adult Swim last year. In fact...I'm not even sure I need to see "The PJs" ever again, but it's such a strange thing to see it offered on DVD that I had no choice but to make it my Pick of the Week. (Also, there wasn't really anything else to pick, as you'll soon find out...)
