The Overrun Recap, 10:00P 10:05P
(for those screwed over by TiVo/DVR)

Jack, at Libbys side, administers a shot of heroin to Libby to ease her pain. Hurley enters and asks for some time with Libby. In a tear-jerking moment and as Jack listens from outside the room, Hurley breaks down while apologizing for forgetting the blankets. Libby begins to gasp loudly, bringing Jack back to her bedside. Libby is clearly trying to find the strength to say Michael, and she finally does. Jack, thinking hes easing Libbys concern for Michaels well-being, assures Libby that Michaels OK...that he pulled through. Libby struggles to finish her thought, but exhales her last breath before she can. Hurley breaks down again.

Gentle music accompanies shots of Kate crying on a couch elsewhere in the hatch, only to be consoled with a gentle arm around her bySawyer - of Eko and Locke returning from The Pearl - of Hurley holding Libbys hand - and finally, of Michael standing in Henry Gales cell with an ice cold stare in his eyes.

Great episode. There wasn't a lot of answers, but this is the first episode that made me felt like I was watching season 1 again.

I'd say there were quite a few answers, or at the very least, some very IMPORTANT answers:

1) Ana Lucia died immediately, but Libby didn't. Thus, the seed is planted for discovering what Michael did.

2) Another hatch is found. Not only that, but we finally know for certain that The Button is nothing more than a psychological experiment.

3) Eko received a message from beyond the grave from his brother. This is a better (or at least, a more thorough) explanation for his transformation from drug lord to holy man.

4) Everyone knows where Sawyer's gun stash is now, so they can declare war on the Others. Of course, Sawyer could just move them again..

There are probably some other big points that I'm missing right now, but these are enough to make this a HUGE episode for me.

Did anybody log into the website from the new Hanso ad (sublymonal.com)? I happened to have my laptop on me and an IE window open when the commercial came on. The first time I tried, the flash loading screen was taking forever. I foolishly refreshed the page, but then I couldn't even get the flash loading screen to start.

The one thing that always gets me about these episodes is how someone will have a dream and act on it, and everyone else, despite having had visions or dreams of their own that they've chased, will act like that person is crazy. At least Locke sorta acknowledged that he did follow the dreams before.

Nice callback to Orientation with Eko's "Do you want to see that again?"

I have a feeling that between Henry Gale and this new Orientation video all saying that pushing the button does nothing, that someone wants that button not to be pushed... and its going to have quite the consequences. I still think that anything we see of Dharma is meant for consumption by the surivors, and as such, cannot be trusted.

I love how we went from clanging and discovering a buried hatch to examing its interior in about ten minutes. Sure beats half a season and the summer like last year.

So Yemi's plane crashed in the center of the island? How big is that place supposed to be?

So we get to catch up with Claire's psychic who admits that he's a fraud and that his daughter wasn't actually dead. Then we get 'evidence' that the daughter was dead, which should dispute the psychic's earlier claim. But he admitted that his charade involves doing research into his subject's lives. So who's to say he or the girl didn't go dig up that he had a brother named Yemi who died. Then again, who's to say that it makes sense for the psychic to tell the priest he's a fraud so as to prevent the Vatican from further investigating his family's powers. I love how they can use these incidents to tell us something without actually telling us anything.

I really didn't see the hellbent need to shoot Libby up with heroin. She was completely unconscious and not moaning in pain at all. She never seemed to make a sound until Hurley started talking to her.

I'm going to throw something at my tv if Locke and Ecko come back and tell everyone that they didn't find anything.

Good for Mr. Ecko picking up anything with writing on it in the new hatch. Locke's an idiot if he thinks there's nothing important in all that documentation. There could be info on finding other hatches that might help them to get off the island. Damn right I would of picked up everything too.

The main thing that would have gotten me excited in that video is the fact that there is maybe a "ferry" within possible walking distance that goes to a "village".

Looks like in the next episode we get to see what happened to Michael while he was gone.

Yup. I won't ruin it for you.........but you'll probably be underwhelmed.

Did anybody call 1-877-HANSORG?

Interesting to see that that spot was paid for by Sprite. Was that put on last week's spot (which I apparently fuh-fuh-widded through and never saw) as well?

Ok, I went to the site and poked around.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
So it starts out with the screens rotating. I had to click repeatedly on the bottom screen until it illuminated. After repeating this for all of the screens, another page came up with a screen flashing between "code:" and "Heir Apparent". The text "sublymonal message unlocked" was shown below the screen. Clicking below that text brought up the 'thehansofoundation.org' website in the bios section. If I click on the bio for Dr. Thomas Werner Mittelwerk, his bio has an entry field that would appear to be where you enter the 'Heir Apparent'. However, I cannot find anything beyond this.

So, can anyone get any farther with this? Or is that all there is for now?

Am I the only one thinking that the shocked look on the faces of the survivors for the preview next week are a result of a Libby "resurrection" (or survival somehow)? When she supposedly died, I said to myself "no way, she hasn't had the flashback episode yet."

I find it VERY interesting that Locke had a dream vision from the point of view of Eko. I think that's going to come to mean something down the line.

Yep, count me in on that one. Although I don't know if that was done necessarily to deceive the survivors, but perhaps the initial participants in the "experiment." What got me to assuming pushing the button was still important is the fact that the doctor in the video refused to state what the experiments were that they were observing.

Are Locke and Eko going to tell anyone that they observed the original hatch from a remote site? I mean, logically they SHOULD, because Lord knows who else is watching, but at the same time Eko and Locke seem so wrapped up in their own "missions" that there's no telling what they'll say or won't say.

Good episode. They were losing me, but they pulled me back in with this one.

For the second to last episode of the season, in case anyone hasn't seen it or wants to know (imdb.com):
Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
Season 2, Episode 23: Live Together, Die Alone: Part 1
24 May 2006
Desmond returns and we delve into his own mysterious past. We learn how he came to be on the island and live inside the Hatch, and of a connection he has to another of the survivors.
I agree with the general consensus, that it was a great episode, and while it didn't further things much, it gave us some decent food for thought:

- to ponder the "is the psychic real or a fake" question. Was he lying to Claire, and it was fate that happenned to put Claire and Eko on the same plane, or was he lying to Eko to take Vatican heat off of his superpowers?

- at what point will they see the video highlight reel of Michael shooting up the hatch? The Orientation video did say that the hatches were being videotaped in addition to notes being filed.

- when Eko and/or Locke start talking to the group about the hatch and mention the pneumatic tube, surely someone will say, "So this tube goes right to them, huh?"....at the risk of KevinTripod throwing something at his TV, of course...

- of all the pre-flight connections, when will Claire and Eko find out they have "the psychic dude" in common? While Ana-Lucia can't tell Jack about his sister, we already know Rose and Locke kinda shared theirs.

And nice contrast in Locke's responses - "I think I've seen enough". The man's sense of purpose is shattered.

Clearly, all Locke and Boone needed was an axe, not a trebuchet.

I'm finding myself thinking about things that are probably irrelevant.

- I find it odd that Locke is on crutches during the trip to the "?". He returned to the place where his legs failed him. Though nothing like that happened this time, Locke still really couldn't "walk." He did manage to find a way down (and then up) the ladder at The Pearl. Just an observation.

- Are we working under the assumption that Desmond drew the map (lost.cubit.net) on the blast door? Whoever drew it knows about the question mark. It's a little odd that someone can find the question mark, but not the hatch door, especially considering the beechcraft was either still not on the ground or not there at all. The markings around the "?" are strange..."designation unknown," "purpose unknown," "relation to D.I.H.G. unknown." They don't seem to suggest one way or the other that The Pearl was found by the "cartographer." Also note that The Pearl is referenced elsewhere on the map, so the person knows of The Pearl, at least.

I admired the parallel of this week's climbing scene with the one last year. Again, Locke has an injured leg and someone else has to make the climb. Locke's dream of Ecko mirrored Boone's fall. Nice.

I got a bit further on the site...

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
In the text box on the Dr. Thomas Werner Mittelwerk bio type "Persephone" (without the quotation marks). When the box clears, type "heir apparent" and a picture of a woman in a doorway appears. Click on her to be taken to a printout of a list of Caltech alumni. Click on the red mark that's drawn on there to get the following message:

"Caltech has no record of this guy in their Alumni database! he's never made a tuition payment does he even have a college degree? Why does he call himself a 'doctor'? of what.

who is this clown?"

Then you're taken back to the bio.

Go look at ye olde blast door map. The Pearl Station is a long ways away from the "?" in the center of the island. And to me, the alleged question mark Ecko could see from the cliff looked more like a circle. If you go to lost.cubit.net, you can see a photo of it. You can see plants have grown over part of the circle, making it LOOK like a question mark.
This is why John's faith is not restored and Ecko hasn't really completed his quest. They found a question mark, alright, just not the RIGHT one.
Yes, I believe we have not yet seen the real central base on the island. And that's where the pneumatic tubes and TV feeds are going.

Good observation. When I watched it again with my wife last evening, she said she couldn't see a "?" she just saw part of a circle. It was also curious that there was a video camera pointed in the Pearl station itself and that the orientation tape was "5 of 6" potentially hinting that there is another station that is "higher" on the food chain than the Pearl. Of course, I didn't pick up on the "ferry" or "village" part, so it could be that 6 of 6 is there instead. That's why I love this show, so many layers and layers of stuff to think and talk about.

I would tuly have lost it if one of those monitors had shown the Other's supposed station. Oh well.
