WOW! Don't go waste your money on this movie. It is awful.

The critics have actually been soft on this movie, but I assure you it is bad. It carries on and on and on for 1hour and 56mins, but it seems like an epic. They could have ended the stupid plot 4 times before they did, but instead they drag you through more and more crap.

Sure, you will laugh at some stuff, but this movie left a horrible taste in my mouth(and everyone else with whom I went).

To each his own, I suppose, because I loved it.

When I go to see a comedy, I want to laugh. And during this movie, I laughed a lot. Is it vulgar at times? Yeah. But that's why it's rated R.

To each their own, I guess. I saw it once with some people from work and we all loved it, and saw it again with a bunch of friends and we all loved it, too. Steve Carell is delightful, and the supporting cast is great, too.

My theater's been consistently busy so far, and we're expecting the good word-of-mouth to generate even more business for Virgin (ala Wedding Crashers).

EDIT: Comparing Crashers to Virgin: Crashers has a really, really strong first act with a bunch of really fun gags...but the fun tapers off once they get into the plot, and there's a lot of stuff that's funny...but doesn't lead to anything. Virgin, on the other hand, is damn funny and pretty consistent. Everything seemed to dovetail into something else and something better.

Saw it last Saturday. Funniest movie I've seen since "Anchorman." Like some critics have said, they could've made this an uninteresting sex romp comedy with little character development- instead, you kind of felt for the guy; the movie wasn't as bawdy as it could have been, and that's a good thing.

Add me to the "loved" pile. This is such a great film, hilarious and sweet, and everything the wretched Wedding Crashers tried to be and wasn't. Steve Carell impresses me to no end.

Loved this movie. Funniest movie of the year, beating out Wedding Crashers by virtue of never stopping being funny.

I'm not really with either group. It was good, there were some wonderful moments, but it dragged on way too long for that type of movie, and it got too serious at the end. Much like "Wedding Crashers" a little editing would have gone a long way with this one. But definitely a fun movie.

Actually, there's a really interesting article at latimes.com (cost-free, spam-free registration required) about how the initial version of the movie was so raunchy that the sex-relates scenes sometimes overshadowed the jokes, which was apparent at some of the test viewings the studio did before the wide release.

See, is this one of those movies like Dumb and Dumber where the people are so stupid you're supposed to laugh but I just end up annoyed and uncomfortable? Because I hate that.

No, that's one of the film's strengths: you laugh with Carell and his cronies more than at them, at least in the latter part of the film, and he's never painted as an idiot as much as just an unmotivated, unlucky geek. No one here is really the object of ridicule. The film really is sweet.

I am afraid to know what kind of comedies you like if this is considered awful. This is far and away the best comedy of the year.

I just got back and I've gotta second the sweet sentiment. The wacky and zany mishaps come out of well-meaning situations, which really helps out. Easily the best comedy I've seen in theaters in quite a while.

I enjoyed the movie as well, but I was a bit disappointed. I heard some really great reviews (including one from Roger Ebert), but I felt that Wedding Crashers was easily funnier than this movie.

I did like Carell in it, and of course Seth Rogen got the best lines in the film (considering his bud, Judd Apatow, directed the flick, I'm not surprised). I was actually impressed with the girl who played Catherine Keener's daughter. She was great, and the entire scene with her and Carell in the support group was the funniest scene in the film.

Okay, against our wills, my fiancee and I saw this film and my god did I laugh a lot. That ending dancing scene was just so surreal and excellent.

All I can say is, if I liked this film, anyone will, because I usually hate movies centered around guys trying to get sex.

I thought it was hilarious. Between this, Wedding Crashers and the unintentional hilarity of Ong-Bak, this has been a great year for comedies.

Fun fact for wrestling fans (SPOILERS AHEAD).......

Matt Tracker: Great comix this week. But why not use the Trojan corner to feature the adventures Al Wilson?
DEAN: Al Wilson rides it bareback, my brother.
Matt Tracker: Waitress, I won't need this omelette after all, thanks.
DEAN: He's too much of gentleman to assume that the lady he is with would have a disease and he's man enough to raise any offspring that should arise. HE IS AL WILSON.

Well, 40 Year Old Virgin made another $16 million during the weekend (for it's second straight #1 weekend). So far, it's made close to $50 million (and basically doubled what the budget for the movie was).

For the curious, Anchorman opened the weekend of July 9th, 2004 with $28M, then dropped to $13M the second weekend and finished it's domestic run with $85M grossed. The budget of the film was about the same as Virgin's.
