I am doubly fucked. Not only did Steve take away my excuse for not buying one for my girlfriend, but now that the Exchange integration is coming out, I'm going to get inundated with requests to hook up people's iPhones.
The worst part? I kinda want one now.

-The iPhone-specific data plan is going away, meaning $30/month for unlimited data instead of $20.
-No online ordering at launch. You must camp out.
-No more at-home activation. Activations will be done in either an Apple store or an AT&T store.
I was ready to jump on board, but these three things will have me holding off until the initial crush dies down at least.

Old iPhone: $399 (for 8GB of storage), plus $60 per month for 450 voice minutes and unlimited data. Two-year total (since you'll be signing a two-year deal for either handset): $1,839.
New iPhone: $199 (for 8GB of storage), plus $70 per month for a basic voice plan (presumably the same 450 minutes) and unlimited data. Two-year total: $1,879.

Which is a pointless article in every way. $40 is not a big deal, especially with the differences between the versions.
Not that I'm complaining as I love my iPhone and am thrilled with it. But the 3G would be nice, sure. The GPS I don't really care about.
I think the bigger deal here is that you have to buy them in a store and activate your 2 year deal with them right there, which will cut out a lot of the people buying to unlock them. |
