Hello.
They just keep on coming - beginning this Tuesday, the next period of 7 days will see an astonishing 389 new listings to Amazon's ranks of DVDs you can buy. This week, there aren't even dozens of operas masquerading as dead weight to make my life easier - no, it's 389 non-operas! AND! They're ALL listed right down there!
I don't know about you, but hearing that a beloved actor is turning a particular age is CERTAIN to drive me to purchase every one of their movies, so thank God Paramount and Warner were smart enough to stack up the releases! (Who'm I talking about? See below)
For those of you who haven't endured one of these lists before, it works thusly:
Hovering over links should provide you with Amazon's current price.
CLICKING on those links will take you to the Amazon shopping cart with a friendly referral from The W - consider making your purchase through us and it'll place a few coins in our tip jar!
Because Amazon sometimes can't come correct with the information, you will see some exposition from me (or, more likely, a bad joke) in addition to the listing along with IMDb icons (which can be clicked to take you to a movie's IMDb listing) or tv.com icons (which can be clicked to take you to the relevant episode list from tv.com)
All links should open in new windows so you can come right back here after your research! (If you want - we're totally flexible about that!)
Please tell a friend (or vote 'em up Digg/Netscape/&c. with a click of the icon of your choice at the bottom) about this post because it takes me a long time and I'm a big fan of more eyeballs!
Please feel free to add a reply and share your two cents about any of the listings you see here - show off your impressive knowledge, share your opinion about something you've seen, something you're looking forward to seeing, or make your own crappy jokes which are better than mine!
We also hope that if you buy something, you come back and tell us what you thought about it - nobody's really done that yet, but hope springs eternal!
If you have something to say but don't want to say it publicly (or register for the board), you can also email me direct at CRZ.DVD@gmail.com!
And away we go...
Well, with so many to choose from it still wasn't hard to single out one release as the
PICK OF THE WEEK: Kitchen Confidential - The Complete Series (The W at Amazon) (FOX, 2005) It's criminal that FOX only aired four episodes of this series before yanking it, but now you can get ALL 13 episodes without having to figure out how BitTorrent works! Based on the writings of Tony Bourdain

You know, I should have remembered Graves wasn't in Season 1. My only defense was I wasn't alive the first time around.
As for the release date, I will have to guess it's a repress just in time for Season 2 - the release date HAS been changed from 5/22 to its original release in December 2006 when you click through, but the title is still showing up in Amazon's new releases list - for now, anyway. Maybe by Monday it'll be "fixed" there as well?

Montreal spin-off of the Fantasia festival focuses on short mainly (almost exclusively) French Quebecois films of horror and science-fiction. They have previously released two horror compilations to great acclaim. (Translated: the directors of the films have large families and many friends.) As far as I can tell from Archambault, all of these films are French and there are no sub-titles.

At one point, when PCP Crazy F'N Manny was still a face, I had proposed a story-line where he got ambushed and disappeared after the beating only to reemerge on a taped Bumfight supposedly shot in Amsterdam. Sadly (mercifully?) it got shot down.

If anyone happens to buy Scrubs Season Five, is it as good as the first four seasons? I don't watch it on TV - only DVD - and I've heard Scrubs is no longer pumping out the quality it once was.
Also, I'm not sure how many Pride FC fans there are around here, but any opinions on these two would be appreciated. I'll likely get Shockwave, as the 2003 event is often mentioned as one of the best events of all-time. Still, it'd be good to hear from anyone who's seen either of these. | EddieBurkett

I'm not buying the DVD's, but as someone who watched Season 5, the show was still good. (The 100th episode is one of my favourites). The drop in quality didn't happen till season six, and really, it was more of a nosedive than a drop. Season six does have its moments, and will probably be at least worth a rental, but if you decided to write your own ending to the series in response to the season five finale and stopped watching afterwards, I wouldn't blame you for it.

This movie is SO GREAT. Sleazy redneck Brad Pitt forces awkward teenager Juliette Lewis into a life of awkward stripping, awkward drug use and awkward prostitution. Michael O'Keefe tries to save her with decidedly un-sexy results! It's kind of bizarre, sometimes funny and really rather disturbing and depressing. The director (Robert Markowitz) went on to do the Starkweater/Fugate TV movie Murder in the Heartland with Tim Roth and Fairuza Balk that caused a little uproar at the time for being kind of bizarre, sometimes funny and really rather disturbing and depressing and ABC was like "Oh God, we can never show this again." Highly recommended!

This is pretty damn bad, but it suffered from some of the most damn nonsensical criticism as the Quebecois French press started wringing their hands over the fact that the film had two suicides in it and was that appropriate given the alarming rate of Quebec teen suicide.

I love the irony that Steven Hill was a member of two very succesful TV series decades apart, both of which were successful despite having revolving door casts. Mission Impossible was always intended to have a revolving door cast, because the point was that the Mission Impossible team leader would pick from a roster of agents, but in practice the cast was pretty stable within the context of a season, but between seasons, things changed in a hurry, starting with Hill leaving because the long shooting schedule interfered with his strict observance of Judaism.
But he was the most stable member of the Law and Order cast, in fact with the exception of the pilot, the only stable member of the cast until he left after what a decade? slightly more? wiki says 1990-2000 so that would be 11 seasons? I guess S. Epatha Merkeson and Sam Waterson have done more episodes than him since he left though.

| #14 Posted on 25.5.07 0526.48 | Instant Rating: 8.00 | I guess the only thing that I watched from this week was Fay Grim. Over in the movie thread, Excalibur says: I've never seen the prequel Henry Fool, but I don't think you necessarily need to, they do a pretty good job of going over the pertinant points during the course of the film.
I'd disagree, but mostly because I think Fay Grim is mostly interesting as a companion piece to Henry Fool, rather than as a movie in itself. Henry Fool is a better film (and watching it again, I was reminded that it has one of my favorite closing shots ever -- although the ambiguity of that ending is erased by the sequel). Fay Grim is like a "What If?" take on those characters -- "What if Henry Fool was an international agent?" -- but, like the Marvel "What If?" comics, I'm not sure how interesting it would be without prior knowledge of those characters.
It's not a bad movie, really. The first 2/3rds has a real charm to it. Parker Posey is good and the character interactions are a bit unrealistic, but funny. While it's a "spy thriller that doesn't take itself seriously" it's a really fun movie. Then the last 1/3rd decides to take itself super seriously and the whole thing goes to hell.
And yet we came to much the same conclusion. The plot is impossible to follow -- similar to, say, Syriana -- and while it's being breezy and spoofy it doesn't much matter, but then by the third act, you're like, "wait -- I was supposed to be following all that?"
