For those who haven't heard of it or seen the advertisements, it's a zombie movie made by Danny Boyle (who done brought us Trainspotting) that rivals nearly any zombie movie ever made. I think I might even rank it slightly above Dawn of the Dead in terms of quality (though still below NotLD and Dead Alive). Any one else see it? Thoughts on if the ending was really the ending?

|  #3 Posted on 28.6.03 0626.27 | Got this last November in the UK; it's a fricking cracking little zombie movie, although the later stages are little too Romero-Lite for my tastes. The early-going is the shit, though, and the zombies are pretty much the coolest ever put on celluloid.

| #4 Posted on 28.6.03 0913.32 | Saw it last night in a PACKED theater. I went to see that movie because I figured it would make just a small splash and the theater wouldn't be too full, what with Charlie's Angels also opening yesterday. But it was almost completely full. A few people even got kicked out because the crowd was getting so rowdy.
Anyway, I really liked it, but would've preferred more zombies. I did like the story and how the characters developed, but if the entire world is now populated by these things, you'd think there'd be more running around. I assumed that they didn't like the light or didn't come out during the day or something, but they didn't really explain it other than "you don't go out at night". I think this'll be a DVD purchase when it's released.

I really, really liked this movie minus a couple small things... mainly, what the hell was with the rampant Pepsi promotion at the beginning? It was mildly distracting...
The last third of the movie was weak. Maybe it's just me, but I wish more people would have the balls to go for the downer ending in movies about apocalyptic futures... there were at least three spots where they could have done a good, believable downer ending, or even a semi-happy ending, and the movie probably would have been better off.
The only other beef I have is that it's being marketed as a zombie movie. It's not, and those are only zombies in the sense that they're brainless and cannibalistic. They're not dead, they're victims of a virus, and if anything thats scarier and more topical than zombies...
Other than that though, friggin INCREDIBLE. The final "good guy" infection was completely tragic, and all those shots of deserted London were creepy AND they were filmed on location which is VERY impressive. The use of video instead of film until the end made for a very creepy atomsphere, and it helped keep the make up work from looking ridiculous.
Excellent soundtrack as well...
MonteCarl, to answer your question about them not going out at night, I think it was just safer to not do so.
I think I'm out of things to say, my A.C. is broken and the computer room is like 90 degrees... peace, jah.

That's why I asked if it was really the ending. The transition to film, the "hell" spelled out on the hillside, the fact that it is a complete 180. The only infected shown are dead in a ditch and they just HAPPENED to find a peaceful beautiful little cottage after the chaos that occured at the compound. Do you think Jim might have died in the crash? It's what I'm leaning towards.
