Hello.
Tuesday brings another slate of new releases - 256 DVDs, 6 Blu-Ray and 3 HD DVDs, if you're counting (which I am).
I'm a little earlier this week because (a) I had some free time earlier and (b) I was curious to see if it would affect anything. Obviously if you're seeing this Thursday or Friday you actually have a real chance to place a pre-order and get it from Amazon on the actual release date, but I don't know that that's actually going to make anyone more interested in actually BUYING something. Even I mainly use this information to figure out what I'm going to go get at Best Buy on Tuesday (although I will order stuff I know won't make it into their stores, since I might as well get it while it's cheapest if I really want it!)
As always, your feedback is appreciated if not outright begged for.
For those of you who HAVEN'T been here before, a brief overview:
Unlike those Amazon folks who are so desperate for clicks that they only let you see 12 items on a page, we got everything on one (very long) page for your convenience!
Hovering over links should provide you with Amazon's current price (which will usually be at its lowest during the pre-order and on the day of release!)
Adding an item from here into your Amazon shopping cart provides a friendly referral from The W, so please consider making your purchase - ANY purchase, for that matter - through us. It'll place a few coins in our tip jar and you'll build up some good karma - you know you need some of THAT.
As much as we love Amazon, sometimes - often - they are a little light when it comes to the details. That's where we step in - I attempt to some provide additional exposition (or, more likely, a bad joke) along with IMDb icons (which can be clicked to take you to a movie's IMDb listing) or tv.com icons (which can be clicked to take you to the relevant episode list from tv.com)! And if I can't give you THAT, I'll sometimes take you directly to the distributor's own information...especially when they're also offering a trailer or free preview. You can waste LOTS of time on these - and really, isn't that what the Internet is all about?
ALL links should open new windows while keeping this one alive, so you can click, look, and then close to come right back here! We never want you to leave!
If you don't mind my asking for some promotion, please tell a friend about this post (or vote this thread up on Digg/Propeller/Newsvine/Reddit/&c. with a click of the icon(s) of your choice at the bottom of the page) because it takes me a long time and I'm a big fan of more eyeballs! We're also happy for you to share this link to others via email as well - a lot of people do that!
Please feel free to add a reply and share your two cents about any of the listings you see here - show off your impressive knowledge, share your opinion about something you've seen, something you're looking forward to seeing, or make your own crappy jokes which are better than mine!
We also hope that if you buy something, you come back and tell us what you thought about it! This hardly ever happens, but it's always appreciated when it does!
If you have something to say but don't want to say it publicly (or register for the board), you can also email me direct at CRZ.DVD@gmail.com!

Well, no, I don't. But I'm also probably not the type of person who would buy this collector's set either.

I am, however. I absolutely love the Mafia genre (books, movies, etc.), and yet have only seen Scarface of those four (and don't own it). Well, I do now. :)

Yeah, check it out. I thought it was really interesting. I don't know that I was emotionally drawn in or anything, necessarily, but it was really fascinating -- sort of the same reaction I had toward Zodiac, for instance -- it made me want to find more information at my local library. (And it looks really great, too.)

| #10 Posted on 19.2.08 1144.25 | Instant Rating: 7.82 | Was Chaos even out in theaters? I thought it was decent, but I wouldn't have been happy had I dropped $8 to see it.
Redacted...not what I expected seeing De Palma's name on it (I had expected something watchable).
In the Valley of Elah was truly a reminder of how long ago Rocky Horror Picture Show came out, and how dee-lish Susan Sarandon used to look. Tommy Lee Jones did his best in this, but I thought the movie was pretty weak.
Rendition gave me the same vibe as A Mighty Heart, but without the sad ending. Good, not fantastic though.
Michael Clayton was a good thriller, though I can take or leave George Clooney. There were some scenes that just felt very out-of-place and would need someone to totally explain to me why there were there (his son talking to Tom Wilkinson on the phone, for one), but it was good and pretty strong. |
