You know, 24 isn't NEAR the hype it got. It's a fine show, it's a good show, but it's not the life changing must-see-or-die show that was promised. There's been no really cool moments, and there were reall cool moments in the Amazing Race, so you'd think it could pull it off.

On the other hand, I did spend way too much time thinking about when I should've been trying to go to sleep last night and any time a TV show actually makes you think (and not think "wow, what a waste of time is THIS"), you've got to give it credit.

Maybe it has more to do with everything being so confused and convulted and maybe not making sense. They really need to stick in a half hour recap show every six hours to explain all these things, with visual aids and such, because some of it doesn't make any sense until you really over analyze it.

That hospital screwed everything up for me - it was a random occurance that no character could have predicted (they'd need to predict about the gun shot missing the Girlfrind, the car hitting her, the girls escaping the evil College Boys, the evil College Boys having to stall for time because the Terrorist chicks were holding out for money and some other little things that I'm forgetting.) How could, say, evilImposterYork know that he was supposed to kill "his daughter" at the hospital when there's no way to guess that she'll be in a hospital in five hours, much less which one?

And then I looked it at from his percepective and it made a lot more sense.

NotYork calls theWife (I know no one's names) after midnight just to make contact with her, and so he'll know if she tries to leave to find her daughter. His offical plan is just to sit around for four hours, then call her back to let her know where the kids are (the BeverlyHills address brought up at the end of this episode) and then, well, we don't know yet. He's also probably aware that she's supposed to get a call around 1:30a from her daughter to let theWife know that she's at a party, which sets up the trip to pick them up.

What NotYork (and the Plan) does not count on is theWife breaking into the e-mail and finding out where the kids were headed (which is a little odd because NotYork should know about Kiefer working for that intellegence agency and maybe having the resources to break into the mail - maybe we're switching over to Plan B), so NotYork has to go with her to the furniture store. If he's aware of that part of the plan (maybe?), he can also drive slow and take his time to make sure they don't find the kids there; that'd ruin everything.

When they get to the furniture store, NotYork wants to leave, because the later phone call he needs to make depends on talking to his daughter (well, pretending to), and as far as he knows, he's not going to be able to do with theWife around. Then theWife gets the call from theDaughter and they're heading home and it looks all fine for Mr. NotYork.

But then it gets all screwy with the kids ruining away and the accident and everything and so NotYork has to improvise (not something that seems good in a complex terrorist plot, but you do what you need to do to tie up loose ends), cleaning up the mess the Frat Boys left but still pretending to get the address from "his daughter" before he kills her off. theWife and him are heading to Beverly Hills and all looks good (as far as he knows - the body of the RealYork being found and IDed isn't something he would plan for, I'd guess.)

So, THAT all makes some sense but you have to work to get it there. What I really want now is someone to explain away the bigger problem: How did the terrorist know about the hospital to take control of the camera system so they could order Keifer around? It's random.

I'd buy maybe that notYork made a phone call sometime along the line that we didn't see (or maybe one we did but I forgot) and that's how they got the car and the garage camera set up, but I don't get how someone would be able to access a camera survillance system without knowing some time ahead of time that they were going to do it, and, like I showed with all the randomness up there, there's no way they could have planned for him to be in ANY hospital, much less this very specific hospital and floor.

Someone solve that mystery for me, and then we can both grouch about the Palmer plot being slow (but at least pretty easy to understand) and that guy at CTU doing nothing for five hours except snooping and having an evil look on his face.

24 is a big rolling pile of goof and yet I can't stop watching it. It's fun when every time Kiefer Sutherland gets off the phone, you say, "Trouble at home?" just like they did during the whole first episode because see he's having TROUBLE at HOME and we need to establish and remember that about his character!

I'm also pretty sure I saw stupid teenager in a van #2 (the one who got shot) at a Figgs show at the Knitting Factory last month. I like how stupid teenager in a van #1 started smoking DOPE and Kiefer's daughter berated and harangued him into stopping so he could help her dig the grave to bury him. My anti-drug is gravedigging.

I really wanted to watch it, but missed an episode and its repeat airing, so I kind of got lost and only half pay attention when I see it now, but I like to pretend that I keep up with it more because it makes me feel better about myself as a TV viewer. I did see Kiefer cut some guy's thumb off once, that was pretty cool. They don't do that a lot on TV shows anymore.

I do find that the show's viewing value is greatly increased by referring to his character as "24", as though his name was "Jack 24". That way you can say things like "Oh man, 24 shouldn't trust that guy, he's totally gonna kill him!" to people with whom you're watching the show, and you can chuckle to each other.

I highly recommend catching some crappy direct-to-video movie Kiefer did a few years ago, where he's this semi-psychic detective who gets caught up in this ridiculous murder plot with vague Alice in Wonderland references or something. It's awesome, especially how he wears those short-sleeved dress shirts that never fail to make someone look stupid. It's almost as funny as that Sixth Sense knockoff movie Andrew McCarthy did for FX this year, where he plays a guy who solves a murder with the aid of ghosts primarily by using his psychic powers to get the shit kicked out of him by old people. Badass!

Hey, is that the movie UPN is playing pretty soon? (Or just did?) I noticed that 24 was in it.

Hahahahaha I called him 24, I wish I'D thought of that, 'cause it IS pretty damn funny. It's kinda like when the OSCS guys talk to Evil Dead - well, maybe not kinda. I dunno. MAN I'm tired.

If you miss an epsiode of most anything (non-wrestling, and that a lot of people watch) on TV, you should check out www.mightybigtv.com - they got recaps of a lot.

Just hope that they finnaly got new servers so you don't keep getting bumped to the front page.

I think I'm gonna try to figure out exactly how many people have been killed on this show so far. They have to be close to be setting a record for TV at this rate, yet we're supposed to be REALLY by one killing that may not take place for another three months (our time.) It's weird.

They have control of the surveilance in the hospital because they have government connections, logically allowing them to go anywhere and do anything. Duh.

I suppose that would allow them to perform brain surgery too, then. It's ALL crystal clear to me now.

So the evil government conspiracry extends to putting security camera footage of under funded inner city hospitals on the WEB.

Intersting.

Personally, I think the best way to end the show would be to find out the Kiefer was the bad guy all along.

No. The perfect way to end it is to find out there IS no assassination attempt. It's all a ploy to get the spotlight off of his DIRTY MURDERING SON.

SHOCKING SWERVE~!

I really like this show. I was shocked for about 5 seconds after Kiefer shot Nina, but then I figured out what happened. It was a cool moment though. I am looking forward to watcfhing it tomorrow, although it will be taped, because my Illini play Iowa tomorrow here in C-U.

Nina KICKS I guess. Are abadoned offices (in shacks!) a big problem in Califonria? I guess.

I'm pretty sure that when they showed that last scene in the previews, there were gunshots fired. Taking them out is CHEATING.

Are we supposed to be wondering if Jack's boss - the guy he met all the way back around 1:30a and who told Jack to trust Jamie - is alive and part of this? He did give the right key card.

It was neat how The Guy Who Does Nothing could accurately portray PRETENDING to do nothing when he was actually doing stuff! And then Nina and him doing good cop/bad cop, well, it was like they decided to make him a dork for seven hours and then see how much they could make up for it in the eigth.

Speaking of dorks, was Jack just going to let the shooting happen? Sure looked like he couldn't decide.

No kidding. I thought he came up with a good way to end it though. And how come Jamie said she wouldn't talk until she got a lawyer, but ended up calling Gaines anyway? I miss Mia Kirshner. She looked terrific in the first 2 episodes. Why didn't the one Secret Service agent that saw Jack go past him to the medical station ever follow up on it after his boss told him that Jack was a threat? What was that deal?

Darn Gold Cup for bumping CMLL to prime time so I couldn't tape both.

Anyway, I was worred for a second there - it was almost two hours without someone getting killed!

They really screwed up by having that plane explosioin early on - if this was a real world, it'd dominate the attention of everyone for the full day and the canadites wouldn't leave their hotels except to wish well to the family.

Nothing brings a family together like rape.

But killing a rapist splits it up.

Could they only afford to pay the Senator's daughter for two episodes?

I think my favorite moment of the show so far MIGHT be the waitress pointing out Jack. Not only would have her going along with his plan been BS, but it's BS that's been done and done and done and it's nice to see a smart person for a while.

I was worried she WOULD, because it seemed like we'd accidently skipped into Big Budget Action Movie with Keifer being replaced with ARNOLD.

I kinda get the feeling that someone filtered a message to the writers that they need some way for those who didn't watch all the way through to get a handle on what was going on, and given all the explantions going on, the waitress was the stand in for those who joined late. Either that or they didn't have anything for him to do this week.

That male bonding moment only makes me think that Tony's still really evil and setting up Jack for later.

The terrorists had a backup plan? Apparently so.

That's right! Plus it nets you a free cel phone. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me!

I like the "Dad won't be a part of this." after the rape. Can't the CTU trace that cell phone call? And nice going, Jack, you're now a fugitive, if you weren't before. And how gross was it seeing Jamey's arm spurting blood? Who the hell would leave that traitor alone for more than a second?

I'd think they posses the power of *69 BUT given the lack of thought all around I don't expect it to be used.

That was one gory wrist slitting but you know, it's tough to have a pretty looking one.

Why aren't they telling Milo what's up? He's not that dumb and he's gonna have a good guess soon anyway. If the dead body doesn't give it away.

I think she tried *69 just before she said "It's BLOCKED!!" but yeah, I thought the same thing, too. They sure seemed to be able to track LOTS of stuff during the midnight hour...

I managed to keep my hands in front of my face to protect me from seeing all the gory gore. ;-)

Milo's gotta be another mole....RIGHT? Nah, I'm not sure I can cram another CTU SWERVE into this plot at the moment.

I'm more worried about what I saw in the preview! How STUPID does 24 have to be to get pulled over by the COPS?!

(If you enjoyed this show, don't forget the encore presentation on Friday)

Ahh but if you watched further along in the preview, Kiefer shows that he's smart by waitng until the cop is walking up to his car before driving away.

(At least I thought that's what I saw.)

How did the shooter (photographer) even get away? He was like 2 steps behind Jack, holding a gun, when Jack got arrested. And how about that stupid bitch tattling on Jack. He could have helped her with her DUI. He did do an unbelievable job of getting away though.
