Another terriffic episode of 24, and perhaps the end of Act I. The override is in hand, Driscoll is apparently on the way out after her daughter's death, and TONY~! is taking charge.

Curtis' ninja-style escape was a serious display of badassery. The season has certainly changed. The first few hours were characterized by lots of bumbling and subterfuge at CTU, but now it's all neck-breaking and computer-hacking.

Adding on to that, we're running out of bad guys, which surely means we're about to discover new bad guys. That Forbes fellow is probably in custody, but perhaps a free Marwan will lead us to Act II's shadowy villains? I'm guessing so. I got a sort of Matrix vibe out of him suddenly appearing next to that other agent and promptly killing him.

Can anyone tell me what the hell Jack was doing in the preview for next week?

So long, Mr. Raines. The reunion was nice, even though we hardly knew you since you dropped the oxygen tank and grew the goatee.

Not that 24 is REALISM~!, but Driscoll's kid has marred a damn good season. The clinic might not be a top-shelf hospital, but have these loon doctors never heard of a straight jacket? Or merely watching a potential suicide? Just when Driscoll was growing on me, too.

If Dina was younger...ooooh. Those eyes.

The trip to Dilbertland at the end was amusing if a tad surreal. They needed an office party to ramp up the oddness.

I love how the way they looked for Marwan was to find the only person who actually looked like he was working. I thought for sure the first guy they thought was him was checking the-w.com or something, but a rare piece of humor when he was playing solitaire. Cool end to the first half, but I had no idea what was going on in the previews for next week. Maybe that's a good thing.

One other thing, hmm who do we put in charge of CTU after Driscoll leaves? Anyone here that didn't work here this morning? Ok, Jack you can be head of field ops, and Tony, you are the new (old) Director. Also, Audrey Raines will now be Assistant Director, Dina Araz will take over for Chloe, and Behrooz will be umm... Milo? It just seemed a little weird to make Tony the Director again since a few hours agao he was drinking beer and watching soccer, but I can't complain since he is one of my favorite characters.

So, yeah, it turns out that Curtis IS pretty bad ass. That's nice to have around.

Not that I'm complaining, because I'm not, but the aspect of Tony being re-instated and then a few hours later he's the director of CTU is kind of not realistic. But who cares?

Was I the only one who found that suicide predictable when Driscoll was walking to see her at the end of the episode? Or was I the only one that didn't catch on quicker? And since it's just a TV character, can I be glad that Mya is gone so that storyline is dead as well? I really hated it.

It will be interesting to see who the new villains are and what they want. That sneaky Marwan, dressing up as a CTU agent.

Good show all around.

I don't want Tony in as Director of CTU because he should be out kicking ass in the field with Jack. Wouldn't Curtis be the more likely choice to replace Driscoll, if she indeed leaves?

I'm really interested in seeing what the REAL master plan is. What could be worse then the mass nuclear meltdown? What's Plan B? AF1 getting hijacked?

Has anyone heard if Michelle is supposed to make an appearance this season?

I know the preview showed Tony when Heller said "you're taking over CTU", but I'm thinking maybe Tony isn't the only person in the room when Heller says it.

I was thinking along those same lines, but since most of the rest of the preview is Tony giving orders to various people, it's probably not all that misleading.

And now, 11 episodes in, I'm finally a Curtis mark. He just needed to shed the AIEEEEsha baggage.

Also, Jack's "nuh-uh" face after the solitaire screen was classic.

The suicide of Maya Driscoll brought out quite a bit of different possibilities and yet ended others. First of all, according to previews, Tony is taking over as interim director. I think that somebody actually called this in an earlier 24 thread. Good foresight.

Maya's death did bring out a lot of emotion in Erin. I was hoping, from a storyline perspective, that this would happen. Unfortunately, it would be better if Erin was forced to tough out the day with this hanging over her, much like Edgar is currently doing. The whole parallel between Erin and Edgar is very striking. Much like the irony involved in George Mason running from a nuclear bomb only to be contaminated with radiation poisoning, the irony of Erin telling Edgar to tough out his mother's suicide only to leave CTU herself is very striking. Of course, it could be argued (successfully, in my opinion) that losing a child is exponentially worse than losing a sick parent. I don't blame or judge Erin, though...but I couldn't help but notice the sad irony involved. Speaking of Edgar, is there not a day he can't save? He has come a loooooooong way since being Marianne's bitch.

Other storylines that disappear with Erin are Sarah's powerplay and the Erin/Curtis cover-up. I'm assuming that we are just to forget about these minor arcs. This isn't a complaint, as the show totally kicks ass, but I'm surprised to see Erin leave so abruptly with a few loose ends still remaining.

Curtis does kick ass. It's funny, just a few weeks ago, I was talking about how lame he is, and then he goes and breaks a guy's neck with his bare hands. He is an official bad ass, and it is great to see such character development.

No Behrooz this week. Oh, and Dina is still hot, but I'm sure she was even hotter back in the day. Personally, I dig her voice. And I like how they are establishing the fact that even though she helped CTU out, she is still definitely a villain and will only help if her son is cut slack.

Well...

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
I have read that both Michelle and Ex-President Palmer have been signed on to do guest starring duties at some point during this season. I am unsure of any details.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Maya Driscoll was actually killed? I mean, Jamey Farrell was killed by Nina in the first season and set up to look like a suicide. I know it sounds like a bit of a stretch, but it was only a few hours ago when her medical file was "accidentally" switched...leading to a near demise for her...just a thought.
