Uh-oh...Kim is coming back. Please hold off her return as long as possible.

I really think season 4 was the peak of this series. I'm starting to notice the show is going in circles.

-Once again, one of the main CTU characters has a screwed up sibling or relative that comes in, causes trouble, leaves. (Seasons 2, 4, and 5)

-Mole on the inside of CTU without them knowing. (Practically every season)

-Someone commits a suicide where they shouldn't be left alone in order to do such a thing at all. (Seasons 4 and 5)

-Someone guns down a terrorist or terrorist associate while CTU have him in custody and is supplying them with crucial information. (Seasons 3 and 5)

-A CTU agent or Jack Bauer goes rogue and has to get reinstated. (Seasons 2, 3, 4, and 5)

I wonder, whatever happened to Lynn Kresge from season 2? Shouldn't Novik have been held accountable for what happened to her?

Also, why is Jack so desperate to tell Kim that he is alive? If she finds out he's alive, doesn't she just become a target just like Michelle and Tony?

I thought it was established that Michelle, Tony, et al. were targetted as were targetted as part of the setup of Jack for the Palmer assassination. It's a moot point now that that's been figured out.

Also, as for Novick, what's more intriguing is how he becomes chief of staff for two different administrations. Getting hired after going behind Palmer's back sure doesn't speak highly of the decision making in the Logan Administration (or I guess it was actually Keeler that hired him).

RE: suicide, don't forget Jaime from Day One. I think that was her name.

Kim Bauer returning to action can only mean that there will be hijinks occurring. But what could top being cornered by a mountain lion?

Very disappointing that Jack just stopped torturing the guy who got shot. It was a very weak return to TORTURE after his go-around with Cummings last weak.

Martha Logan is so much cooler than President Charles Logan. That slap across the face was fantastic. I can't wait to see the fallout from his announcement.

Chloe is in charge. Spencer didn't even know what hit him. And what was up with that grin on Edgar's face after Chloe told him to shutup?

What fallout are we going to see, Big Steve? Now that Walt Cummings is dead there's no reason to go public with anything. Well, maybe when it gets revealed that Novick killed him because he was pissed at Cummings's role in Palmer's assassination...

Anyway, pretty weak episode. Enough with repeating what we've already seen in previous seasons. The story with Palmer's aide attacking Alexei Drazen was great in season one -- doesn't mean we needed to see it again with Gael's wife shooting Saunders and russian sex-slave and evil Sean Connery clone.

Oh yeah, I've got to disagree with Vile1 -- the show hit it's peak in season two. Season three had some great moments, and so did season four, but both just got really fucking silly. Up until tonight it was looking as if this season would rank up there with seasons one and two...

I think the point of going public is becuase there is nerve gas loose in the country that may or may not be released because someone inside the administration was complicit in the terrorists obtaining it. Instead of covering up how they got it, the idea was to come clean. Maybe I'm reading that wrong though.

Good - I wasn't the only one who noticed that.

Maybe it's not made clear, but I've assumed Novick was part of Logan's VP staff and he carried that staff over when he became President.

Jamie didn't kill herself, but that's only one of the biggest plot points of season one, so it's easy to forget.

Wow! Archon and Cash in the same episode (and this after Daedelus was back in the season premiere!) Who knew all the vampires were vulnerable to being shot?

There is NO WAY that girl is 15. If she is... uhm... no!

I couldn't believe that Jack would leave her unattended at all - even to change. The way that the camera followed Jack as he shut the door on her, I was expecting Jack to come back into the room and find she had hung herself with her bathrobe in a parallel of Cummings.

I can't believe McGill, being as anal as he is, would allow himself to walk into such an obvious trap.

You just know that regardless of how they try to cover it up, Cumming's timely suicide will be fodder for the conspiracy theorists. I love that with Cummings out of the picture, Novick's become shady again.

This was the first 24 episode in a long time that just made me want to shut it off and walk away from all of its BS.

Like The Vile1 mentioned, another screwed up family member just happens to show up and create distractions for a CTU agent. *yawn*. Can't one of these CTU clowns say to their f'd up daughter|wife|ex-wife|girlfriend|ex-husband|boytoy|sister "uh, i've got a bit of a situation here with, um, about a million possible civilian deaths. how about you call back about this little problem, that's only a problem to YOU, in about 24 hours?"

For me, Sam Gamgee's crackhead sister is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Last week, Jack Bauer goes to the President's retreat to secretly meet with Mike Novick about Walt Cummings, the president's chief of staff who tried to have Jack killed and who's in league with the terrorists. The place is crawling with Secret Service agents looking to bring Jack down.
So what happens? Audrey calls up Jack with the whole "Is it true? Do you still love me?". And rather than tell her that she's wasting time with bullshit he gets all sappy "boohoo, I wish I could quit you, boohoo"

I can see it next. Jack's got an Uzi and a Bowie knife and he's in the next room from 30 russian terrorists and he's about to kick some ass. Phone rings. It's Curtis. "Hey Jack, how about that Duke game last night". "yeh I know. I lost 50 bucks on that shit".

Maybe it's the heroin, or maybe he's just getting old, but Jack has definitely lost a step. 15 year old russian sex slave my eye! He fell for that crap? Here's a guy that chops peoples heads off just to make a point to another criminal and he lets this "girl" alone in one hell of an important situation. I can't believe he bought into her whole "sniffling, crying, fake-black-eye" routine. That's no innocent girl. She's not 15. She's a damn russian spy/terrorist and Jack is just getting old.

Just a few hours ago Jack had a gun to his head and he was on the radio "i'm in a flank-2 position. get it Curtis?! FLANK-2!! That's FLANK-2". So you'd think that when the security guard was all "uh yeh, situation BLUE, nudge, nudge, wink, wink" Jack might have caught on.

A friend of mine said that 24's the same exact show each year, just with a different WMD. I don't think it's that simplistic. I don't think anybody's trying to hide the fact there's a certain storytelling formula in the world of 24. Certain plot elements are used over and over again, but each time they're tweaked just a bit. For example, the mole element, present in practically every season so far, didn't always produce a mole (the way we think of a mole). To some, that might just be splitting hairs, but it doesn't mean it's not true. Day 4 got some high praise (deservedly so, IMO), but they were using the same storytelling devices they had been using during the previous 3 days...the difference was in the execution. It's unfair to praise Day 4 and at the same time, criticize Day 5 because they're recycling plot devices.

-Re: CTU employees' relatives - don't forget about Chase's baby from Day 3. Awww.

Also, the deal with Rudy and his sister may be the first time a situation like this creates a direct, negative impact on CTU (that is, something other than your daughter or brother being a pain in the ass and distracting you from doing your job): Crackhead sister's boyfriend made off with something other than cash. The camera focuses on a card from Rudy's wallet that doesn't appear to be a Discover card.

-Blink and you missed Senator John McCain's cameo.

Oh snap that was really him? I thought we were just making funny jokes when we said "Look, there's Senator McCain!" I should have known better.

But Jack just has to go back into hiding again. And the way I see it, the less people close to him that know he's alive the better. Someone hacked into Chloe's computer as she revealed during season 5 prequel and found out that Jack was still alive. I assume it was Cummings, and then he targets the 3 people who knew it.

RE: suicide, don't forget Jaime from Day One. I think that was her name.

I was thinking about that. However, wasn't Jaime actually innocent and the one that killed her was Nina and made it look like a suicide?

How about that one of the "good guys" (Gael from season 3) ties her up, really for no apparent reason. Since he turned out to be a good guy and all.

And what was up with that grin on Edgar's face after Chloe told him to shutup?

You can tell from earlier that Edgar was crestfallen about the whole Chloe/Spencer situation. And obviously he was jealous as well. Edgar was just taking some self-satisfaction in Chloe's cold ejecting of Spencer after she brings him into help.

I really REALLY hope this doesn't become a plot point.

What should happen: Lynn returns and says he got his wallet stolen. All the codes are changed and the card is worthless.

What will happen (Because it's 24): Lynn returns. Buchanan asks him what happened. Lynn says, "Um, nothing. Let's get back on task." And hijinks with the card ensue.

These little side plots always annoy the hell out of me, but I realize it just wouldn't be 24 without them.

When Jamie died, it was made out to look like a suicide, but in the last hour, Jack found out that Nina tazed her and then slit her wrists. As per Jamie's innocence, she had sold information concerning CTU to Gaines, so she was guilty of that.

As per Lynn: it's just like Rick from season one: you never hear from them again; though I quite liked the Lynn character.

Ok, but she didn't commit suicide though, so that part doesn't count .

Also, let's not forget Michelle's lunatic brother from season 2.

Maquis? I don't think it was ever really said what happened to Lynn. But her assault and being tossed off a flight of stairs was indirectly caused by Novik. So...shouldn't he have been held reponsible for that?

Because I had nothing better to do at the time, I broke out my '06 calendar and counted off the remaining episodes and realized that if they kept the same schedule as last year, the two-hour finale would air on Memorial Day. That doesn't work. They would have to throw in another two-hour special somewhere in the middle. Lo and behold, the press release was put out today announcing a two-hour special on March 6 (hours 11 and 12). Beautiful. It's also significant because it marks the end of Skating With Celebrities and the return of Prison Break. Mondays are gonna be sweet.

The press release is here (thefutoncritic.com) if you want it, but it contains SPOILERS, including the names of returning cast members (one of which caught me off-guard).

Michelle Forbes played Ro Laren on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The character defected to the Maquis on the next to last episode of the series ("Pre-emptive Strike").
