Even Ziggler's heroic effort served to make him, um, a hero. He's losing his total heel status.
I like "gray" booking, but we're losing our utter rat-bastard villains atop the roster, especially as Rhodes Scholars lose their shot to move up.
Are the only true bad guys foreigners (Barrett, Cesaro, Tensai)?
Del Rio is now a face, Miz is now a face, Jericho is presumably going to be a face now that he's back in Y2J mode, and Ziggler is allegedly turning face. It's setting up a vacuum on the top heel side that could be filled by Cena turning. Not that I think this would actually happen, but it would make some storyline sense if we get a WM17 scenario and a desperate Cena has to go heel to beat the Rock...or has the Shield attack him and it's revealed that Cena was behind them all along.

I don't know about "hasn't lost a step", considering he was gassed vs. Cena at WM, and was gassed last night vs. Punk.

The Shield have worked once match since they made themselves known. Punk has as many supporters as he does detractors.
I hesitated to mention Lesnar because it could easily get sidelined into a part-timer/full-timer validity argument. But if he comes back against Taker or HHH, well, that just pits two guys who we see wrestle about three times a year.
RAW, if it's now the one show that brings all the WE together each week, needs full-on bad guys in the main event. It may be a symptom of their kid-friendly focus that they're nervous about making anyone look really evil anymore unless they have an accent.

I almost did not include the Shield but you included Tensai and the Shield is certainly more relevant than he is in their short time on the roster.
As for Punk and Ziggler, they're both heels. I don't care if they have fans because people appreciate them, they are heels. The WWE isn't shy to pull the trigger on full-on bad guys because they are both full-on bad guys. So people cheer for them and they may officially turn face but how is that any different from any other period of time? Taker, Michaels, Stone Cold, The Rock, Mankind, Kane, Triple H, Cena and Orton all started as heels but because they are all really good they became popular. Eventually the WWE turned them face and found new heels and some of them would go back to being heels later.
I don't see how today is any different. If Punk and Ziggler officially turn face then the WWE will find more heels and until then they are heels. The fact that they are popular doesn't diminish their heel actions, at least it doesn't to me.
If anything the fact that the fans cheer the wrestlers that are American and are clearly acting like heels but not the foreigners that are clearly acting like heels says more about the fans than it does about who the WWE is willing to make look like bad guys.

Yeah, and JBL even said on commentary no matter how much cadio you do, it's no substitute for being in ring shape. Only matches get you in ring shape. At one point, I thought The Rock today isn't capable of donning a headset and cutting a promo mid match. But look at it reasonably: 1) He's 40 years old. 2) He's wrestled twice in the last nine months, and those matches aren't five minute specials or RAW squashes. They're 30 minute matches against the two top guys in the company. The important thing, to me anyway, is that Rock's timing is still incredibly sound and he's right on point for all the big spots he needs to hit. And if you go back and watch The Rock wrestle during the Attitude Era, the guy was a big bitch. He got his ass kicked a lot. And he's always been great at selling. The Rock sold great for Punk last night.

Punk vs. Taker to me is the main event if they go for it. The real question is will they ever pull the trigger on Ziggler?
Wow. That's some hardcore hatin' right there if you'd leave Wrestlemania before the main event just to avoid seeing that match.
Its better than my friend who said he is willing to leave as soon as he sits down. If it is the main event then leaving early will be mainly done to beat traffic. Also, why subject myself to another round of Cena beats the odds on the grandest stage of them all for the tenth time? No. I'd rather see Rock walk on, pose with the belt and go, because I will leave on good note
Why the hell did your friend buy a ticket, then? Just so he can be tell all his other friends "Oh yeah I was at Wrestlemania! But I was so upset with the WWE and what they planned that I just walked out as soon as I got there! That'll show 'em!"?
No, this is a bucket list thing for us. We have been to SummerSlam in Canda, The Rumble in Philly and Survivor Series at MSG along with countless Raws and Smackdowns. This will complete the Big Four for us and the general consensus among us is that this will be our last big thing.

Cena winning gave me a feeling of like walking in my mom in the shower. Not entirely unexpected, but just wrong. And I've seen it so many times before...I really gotta re-think this metaphor.

I believe this is true, and you're absolutely spot-on about Rock's timing and selling, which were always his strong points. But if you contrast him with Jericho, who is about the same age and also wrestles long matches after months off, it's really obvious how gassed he gets now. I think it has less to do with his age and more to do with the fact that he looks and probably is completely juiced to the fucking gills. Like Ultimate Warrior in 1987 juiced. He almost looks grotesque. His age combined with his absurd size is probably the lethal cocktail that's working against him. Jericho now does Yoga; Rock needs to change how he trains because clangin' and bangin' is for twentysomethings.

I totally agree with this, however. That's the second PPV I've seen that dude, same shirt, and he knows his role.

The guy's there for a lot of the big shows or ppvs. Seen him at WM too and Cena has acknowledged him a few times too.
I enjoyed the ppv with the low being Cena winning. But it was to be expected. I cheered loudly for the Jericho and Goldust entrances and liked how they performed. Rock-Punk was good and solid. I don't mind him being winded, and they went to the big spots soon enough for it not to really show. I did NOT expect things to happen the way they did. Actually having the Shield attack in the dark was smart and for a moment I thought Punk could get away with it. We were growling at the screen "show the end credits!"
Also, I think it might not show as much with Jericho because he could hang into the ropes if needed. The focus wasn't on him all the time. Not saying that the yoga vs muscle thing isn't true but I'm just pointing it out.

Someone lemme know if I've missed something or included one by accident.
The third, to be precise. While he has technically held the Smoking Skull belt in his hands, it was "stolen" to continue the feud between he & Austin after Wrestlemania 15, meaning Austin was technically champ and not Rock.
