Punk vs. Taker to me is the main event if they go for it. The real question is will they ever pull the trigger on Ziggler?

Wow. That's some hardcore hatin' right there if you'd leave Wrestlemania before the main event just to avoid seeing that match.

Its better than my friend who said he is willing to leave as soon as he sits down. If it is the main event then leaving early will be mainly done to beat traffic. Also, why subject myself to another round of Cena beats the odds on the grandest stage of them all for the tenth time? No. I'd rather see Rock walk on, pose with the belt and go, because I will leave on good note

Why the hell did your friend buy a ticket, then? Just so he can be tell all his other friends "Oh yeah I was at Wrestlemania! But I was so upset with the WWE and what they planned that I just walked out as soon as I got there! That'll show 'em!"?

Guys, it's now clear to me WrestleMania NY/NJ and the Road leading up to it will be the Story of John Cena's Redemption. After the Worst Year of His Career in 2012, Cena vanquished Dolph Zigger and has won the Royal Rumble, setting the stage, it seems for his righting the wrong of Miami and conquering The Rock in New Jersey, becoming WWE Champion once again. It's a great story. I'm not interested.

The little things I loved were Heyman putting his watch in front of a kneeling Punk and Punk smiling.

I did really love Cena jumping out and posing next to the forlorn Anti-Cena fan in the black T-shirt after he won. I like rubbing it in haters' faces.

Jericho's monster pop and all the smiles on everyone's faces when he appeared plus his performance were my personal Rumble match highlights.

Also, Daniel with his legs wrapped around Kane as if to kiss him, mirroring AJ in the same pose last summer. Ah, symmetry.

22 year old me marked out hard for the Dusty Finish and The Rock winning the title. Older me then took over and frowned at the thought of Twice in a Lifetime. So I'm kind of all over the place on this.

But at least last night ended with the heartwarming fairy tale of the rich, handsome movie star and part time wrestler getting validation and everything he wanted.

TITLE CHANGE STATISTICS

WWE Championship
New Champion: The Rock (8th reign)
Previous Champion: CM Punk (434 days; since 11/20/11)
2013 Title Changes: First

This is The Rock's eighth reign as WWE/WWF Champion; as a two-time former WCW Champion, he's therefore won 10 world championships overall. He's also won the WWF (World) Tag Team Championship five times and the Intercontinental Championship twice, meaning that he's won 17 championships overall.

This was The Rock's first title win since pinning Kurt Angle in a triple-threat match for the WWE Undisputed Championship at Vengeance on July 21, 2002, thus winning the title away from champion The Undertaker. (The more cynical of fans, which in this case include me in their number, would say that Angle was only in that match in the first place so that Undertaker didn't have to get pinned).

By my admittedly unscientific count, this marks the fourth different design of WWE Championship belt that The Rock has won. Previous wins include that of the "Attitude-era" round belt, the "Smokin' Skull" Stone Cold Steve Austin belt, and the Undisputed belt. Someone lemme know if I've missed something or included one by accident.

When he won his seventh WWE Championship, The Rock set a record for WWE TItle wins that has since been surpassed by both Triple H and John Cena. Cena still owns the record at 10; Triple H and The Rock are now tied with 8 apiece; Randy Orton, Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan each have 6.

And yet all eight of The Rock's WWE Title reigns combined fall half a year short of matching the combined length of CM Punk's two WWE Title reigns thus far.

The Rock's win ended the historic 434-day reign of CM Punk as champion, which began at 2011's Survivor Series and endured throughout the entire year of 2012 before ending at 2013's first pay-per-view. Punk's reign was the seventh-longest in WWE history, which realistically was about the best he could possibly hope for, seeing as how #6, Pedro Morales, held the title for 1,027 days.

In an era when world championships are seemingly handed out like candy, with 10 WWE Title changes taking place in '09, six in '10 and eight in '11, Punk helped put a stop to the madness, and relative stability with the World Heavyweight Championship (currently held by Alberto Del Rio) has helped make WWE's top championships mean something again.

Enjoy reflecting on Punk's reign and watching the matches in which he fought off his challengers by hook or by crook; we may never again see the like of a 434-day title reign.

This is my sixth Wrestlemania & I've not been discontent enough to give up my tickets. No, I'm not the one he's referring to either. That being said, I've always found the yearly big event to have decent matches or at least the ones I've attended.

As for this PPV. I'm for the overall feeling it was pretty good. Nothing overly spectacular but I liked the special returns. Seemed fitting.

This is the first PPV I've watched since WM28 ... it was good, but not great ...

I thought for sure that Team Rhodes Scholars would win, but I have no problem with Team Hell No carrying their momentum into WM29 ... makes perfect sense to milk their popularity for another couple months ... plus, if we don't get a MitB match at WM, perhaps we'll get a good ol' TLC tag title match ...

I wonder if Ziggler's reference of unifying the heavyweight titles is a sign of things to come re: the belts?

This is such good work. I appreciate them each time you do this.

Rock may also now represent the least amount of degradation during lengthy spans between world titles. He left the business and got physically bigger and seemingly hasn't lost a step in the ring. It helps that he stepped away when he was young and that his returns are short-term.

All things considered, I enjoyed the rumble. I just wish they had more imagination in the results. I don't mind the Rock winning but I could do without the bait and switch. If Punk was going to win like that the first time, it should had been Brock Lensar interfering. I know he has a limited number of appearances but how hard can it be to get him on PPV? Now if he does show up to do a WM program, it won't just feel a little predictable (probably since they'll have him go against HHH again), it might feel a bit rushed in buildup (I really don't see him showing up now anytime before Elimination Chamber).

As for the rumble itself, I'm not crazy about Cena winning. Other than that though, it was a fun rumble to watch. Jericho as #2 was genuinely one of the more surprising entrants I have seen in several years. I also liked the other surprise entrants. And while I thought the headstand was better last year, it was fun watching Kofi trying to MacGyver his way back to the ring.

What I found interesting in the end was that every match on the PPV eventually had a babyface go over (I know Cesaro won but that doesn't really count because it wasn't shown on the PPV). Even the rumble had the 'bad guy winning' element removed when Ziggler was eliminated and the last 3 were Sheamus, Ryback, and Cena. I just hope they get Lensar for WM because without him or another strong heel to really root against (Punk's heel shtick is tired out, IMO and I'm afraid Ziggler's going to screw up the MITB shot), WM may still be good to watch this year wrestling-wise but not as captivating drama-wise.

Last three Rumble survivors: main-event faces.
Presumed Mania main-event match: face vs face.

Even Ziggler's heroic effort served to make him, um, a hero. He's losing his total heel status.

I like "gray" booking, but we're losing our utter rat-bastard villains atop the roster, especially as Rhodes Scholars lose their shot to move up.

Are the only true bad guys foreigners (Barrett, Cesaro, Tensai)?

Spoiler!

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
Meltzer said Jericho is taking on Ryback at WrestleMania, and seemed to be very definite about it.

annoyingly trying to figure out what's next...

People who watch NXT: are there other people who could be stand-ins for the Shield? Maybe they don't look that a like, but if the lights were out and you just needed someone to vaguely look like Roman Reigns, is that a possibility? (The other two guys figure to be simpler.)

They're surely doing Punk vs Rock at Elimination Chamber, maybe the match 'wrongly' being restarted is the reason (or maybe you don't really need a reason, because Punk's the ex-champion, but this way allows Punk to claim he's still champion and keep the number going for one more PPV.) Traditionally, this story ends with a cage match to just stop the interference, but it's the Chamber show. There's no reason to put four other guys in there, maybe they just have a two man Chamber?

Man, I know he just lost, but have you already forgotten Punk? That first ending to the main event made that crowd go NUTS and Punk sarcastically waving to Rock as he booted him out of the ring made them lose it that much more! Punk may be down for now, but his heel work is masterful and he may be all that the top of the roster needs for now.

Of course, there's also the rumor of that Randy Orton heel turn, which (if it happens after April) will lead to a feud with John Cena. And THERE'S a feud we've never seen before!

Well, the Shield alone doubles that amount. Punk of course, Lesnar has re-signed, Jericho will probably be a heel again before he's done. I wouldn't mind seeing Sheamus or Orton (or both) turn back to heels. Is there any word on a Christian return?
