After the moves the Dodgers made, it'll be nice to have people (possibly) talking about baseball in October rather than waiting anxiously for basketball season.

It hadn't really been in question for quite some time, but with their win over the Cubs yesterday afternoon, my Nationals won their 82nd game, assuring themselves of a winning record for the first year since their arrival in DC, and the first time in combined Expos/Nats history since '03.

Franchise record: 94-68 in 1993. (Missed the playoffs, though!)
Best winning percentage: Their 74-40 record with a .649 winning percentage made the '94 Expos team off to a considerably better start than the previous year. Then the strike happened.

I'm we would normally be fixated on the Yankees putting up a choke job on the level of last year's Red Sox team right about now, but...the Orioles! The ORIOLES!

Holy crap, the Orioles!

Grimis would be proud if he was still alive. [/Simmons]

...but seriously, folks, how would the Red Sox Nation of Domination (tm) react at the end of the season if the Yankees ALSO missed the playoffs? We still take equal pleasure in the failings of the Yankees, right?

A weak defensive catcher, one who doens't move well and has a poor throwing arm, such as Piazza, is much less likely to effectively handle a bunted ball by a speedy baserunner, thus resulting in a base hit.
