Atlanta has volunteered to win that first NL Wild Card spot. No one wants anything to do with that second one.

FEAR THE BRAVES

Except maybe the Phillies all of a sudden.

It's going to be a real bummer if the Pirates end up with another losing record.

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball

How is it that the Phils jettisoned half their lineup and are STILL in it?

They jettisoned the parts that weren't contributing?

Being 'in it' gets a little easier every year. I imagine that next year there will be at least one additional WC team that is determined by Bud Selig drawing a team name out of a hat.

Why even play a regular season again?

The Cubs offer was about the same $1 mil this year + incentives + $5 mil team option for next year. If Prior took the deal, they would've got around the minimum decrease issue by non-tendering him and then signing him as a new free agent.
