Utah State did everything right, up until the onside kick. Even if the fake field goal had failed it still would have been better than kicking a field goal to go up 6 and set up a touchdown loss. And, if Auburn hadn't pulled off the miracle comeback, would the fan base remember how much they didn't like their coach without Cam Newton?
Can't go minus 5 and miss a chip shot field goal and win. Only bright spot for Notre Dame in that game is maybe Kelly realized who is quarterback should have been all along.
Remembers when Oregon State was actually a good football team.
Georgia might have achieved the ugliest jerseys yet. Boise just needs the winner of LSU/Alabama to lose a game or Oklahoma to lose.
Speed and power on defense counters speed on offense, at least until Oregon develops a passing game.
Can really start to see the slippage in Southern Cal.

There are three bright spots for the ND lost, they have their QB, their defense is a lot better than last years and all the national championship talk is now dead. Now, they go out and just play while not killing themselves like a dishonorable samurai. Boise State is now back to being the fly in the ointment and a better case with a win against an SEC team in SEC country. Auburn is going to be the lucky team that wins a lot of games like LSU last year or they will go 4-8. LSU looks good while the Pac-10 should be on red alert.

Without Newton, I don't think Auburn is in title contention. But I do think they'll be better than 4-8. The comeback win has to at least give them some momentum early on in the season until they get squashed by Alabama. As for ND, you right in that they can stop talking about them chasing the title;I never understood that talk in the first place because they're barely a bowl team at this point, IMO. I really wished I could had seen College Gameday last night to see Lou Holtz's reaction to his own son killing his beloved team at home. Oh, and is anyone else as disappointed as I am about TCU losing? I was hoping they would be become the new Boise State instead of 'boring, cheating, play puff college teams to inflate our records' Bosie State being Boise State this year. Can you tell I've really soured on them in the last year or so?

I did not see it, but apparently Lou had picked his son for the win in that game.

Skip also took a shot at Mark May at the end of the game. Holtz was pretty happy at the end. After today, I am wondering if Skip wasn't the right choice for the ND job instead of Mr. Freak Out Kelly.

Lou did indeed pick USF and was happy but professional in the post-game (when it was finally post-game). I may have to cheer USF now. Any shot at Mark May is a plus.

Notre Dame lost to a good team. USF has been a FBS team for about 10 years now, but they've built a good program in that time. There was a stat at some point yesterday, this was USF's third road win over a major team in as many years - ND, Miami, and... Florida State(?). (TheBucsFan shall clarify my USF confusion). You can make the argument about the quality of those three programs in the past three years, but that's still pretty impressive. Not sure why there are so many ready to abandon ship after one loss. They were, what, 8-5 last year? So get to 10 wins before you start aiming for a national championship.

Now, to heed my own advice and await Alabama-PSU..... >_<

ESPN will hire anyone with a name regardless of the slime trail they leave I suppose. Having Holtz on there spits in the face of what's left of integrity in covering college football.

I can't watch him.

Really Lou Holtz is what is wrong with ESPN? Not Skip Bayless, Jim Rome or other shock jock personalities who are 85% wrong about everything. Not the hero worshiping that goes over the top stars. Not the Disnyfied versions of most of their reporting. So, a guy who was a winning coach in college and someone is willing to look the fool at times with picking games is what is wrong with ESPN as well as. Ok, whatever.

Lou Holtz left each of his last three college coaching assignments in trouble with the NCAA while he got off scott free, and ESPN glad-handed him into the broadcast booth.

He's a piece of garbage. Period.

Feel free to twist this any way you like.

I think Boise has to rely also on Georgia having a decent season, which could happen with their schedule, but I wouldn't want to have my hopes resting on the Bulldogs right now.

Maryland looked terrible last night in more ways than one. To barely beat a Miami team missing that many guys wasn't pretty. At the same time, Miami's biggest problem are those terrible DB's and those are the regular starters.

After having the season they had last year (6-7, for anyone who's counting) the fact that Georgia was RANKED this preseason despite losing key contributors to graduation/the NFL just goes to show how much of a joke preseason rankings are. They are not good, and they will not be good.

Loved Dyer channeling his inner Marshawn Lynch towards the end of the game. They were going to win the game anyway by that point, I wish the young kid could have gotten the game winning score. Good game. Hate the SEC but was still rooting for Auburn.
