Honestly, if that's the worst call the umps blow this postseason, we'll all be better for it.
So true. The six of them got together, discussed, and still they blew it.
The home plate ump was blowing calls all night long. How many balls thrown to the Yanks that were called balls that were called strikes to us was fucking unbelievable. Also, how can the strike zone change so much from left handed hitters to right ones. Just unbelievable.
Now, I'm not saying the umps cost us the night. Liriano has been struggling the last month and he just couldn't do it last night, and the bats just weren't there for us when we needed them. We'll see how Pavano does tonight, tho.
Is it going to be the same ump crew at Yankee stadium? If so, I really don't have any desire to watch the game. Two nights in a row of that bullshit is enough.
Oh, and before the "Whiny Twins fan" bullshit starts, don't get me wrong, the Twins have SUCKED these past two games. Mauer and Thome can't hit a fucking thing and honestly, Liriano pitched how he wound up the last couple of games of the regular season: shitty. I was actually surprised he didn't get himself worked up and take hizzelf out cuz he had a tummy ache. Pavano did just okay, and Mijares has no reason to be on our mound, period. Gurrier has actually come around in the last month, whereas the middle of this past summer, I groaned whenever they brought him out. I'm still teetering on Crain. Honestly, for as much as everyone (ie: sports casters, friends, stranges, myself, etc.......) talks up our pitching coach staff and our AAA coaches, yes, we have glimmers of hope somtimes, but with the exception of Johan Santana in his prime, we reeally DON'T have that ace in the hole. Gawd, it's frustrating. Even Matt Caps is shaky. Rausch is pretty dependable, tho.
Aaaaaaaaaaand, I'm spent.
regarding my umps traveling question, a co-worker just told me they don't go with to NY. Anyone know the answer?
It is reaching the point where if the Twins had a 15-0 lead with 2 outs in the 9th against the Yankees, I'd still have no faith in the Twins winning the game.
This has been the Twins since 2002: Get really hot in the second half, come out of nowhere to win the division/wild card, collapse in the playoffs.
I don't know why anyone expected this time to be any different.

I was ready to ride this train along with you, until I remembered that the "catch that wasn't" at the end of Game 1 would have potentially won that game for the Twins, had Jim Thome done ANYTHING with that ball other than pop up.
Now if you want to complain about the Twins' bats seemingly being made of breakaway balsa wood, THAT'S an argument I can get behind.

They HAVE broke an inornimate amount of bats this year. After the game last night, one of the local sportscasters had a bat that broke on someone the night before, and he said the way the company makes it, the bats are designed to only make contact with the ball for only like an 8" section, from the tip back. If it hits any other part of it,it is prone to shatter. WTF?!?!??!?!??! I think it's time for a new bat company.
Speaking of shattered bats, the Twins all year long had a deal where if an opponent breaks/shatter/cracks a bat against a Twins pitcher, the Minnesota twins organisatin would plant 100 trees. It's a good thing for the Twins that they didn't do it against Twins batters. Half the MN farmland would now be planted forests thanks to Shitty Baseball Bat Company.

Yankees in three. Rangers in five.

I would just like to congratulate me on getting the ALDS right :)
Just saw the story on the Rangers showering Josh Hamilton with ginger ale after the Game 5 win, which is a refreshingly nice sports story.
Happy trails, Carl Crawford. You're going to look great in an Angels uniform next season!
Is Cliff Lee going in Game 3 such a bad thing for Texas? If anything, I'd actually prefer having Lee go on the road in New York and have him ready for a Game 7, just in case. It's not like they couldn't trot him out for Game 6, if necessary, right?
I don't think anyone would have ever predicted A-Rod ever going back to Arlington in a playoff setting.

Texas loses the option of throwing Lee 1/4/7 on 3 days rest. That is the penalty for not closing the series out at home.
1/4/7 wouldn't have happened anyway. Lee is apparently really uncomfortable going on short rest - he didn't do it with the Phillies last year, and the Rangers didn't want him to do it this series.
This should be a really interesting series. The two teams split 8 games this year. The Rangers got swept in the Bronx very early in the season, but then bounced back to take 4 of 5 in Arlington.
On the other hand, the road teams have been dominant on the AL side of the playoffs this year.
I say it's a toss-up, despite Lee not starting until Game 3.
Phillies picked up Oswalt to match up against the Reds. Phillies in a sweep. Giants in 4 over the Braves, as the eternal Braves weakness of the bullpen costs them a game. Phillies in 6 over the Giants as pitching and power beats pitching.
