We're only about halfway through the first round, but this might be the best NBA playoffs I've ever seen. There have been a couple of boring matchups to be sure, but for the most part it's been excitement in every series. Beyond my own personal rooting interest, I would love to see the Grizzlies topple the Spurs and/or the Thunder break through to the next level.
Anyway, to start this year's version of the fun game I started back in the 2009 NBA Playoffs thread (The W):
Derrick Rose is still incredible, Marc and Zach have been too much. Brandon Roy might be invincible. Anyone still think the Hawks suck?
(Admittedly not my best work, but after seeing almost everyone pick the Magic in 4 or 5 in the predictions thread, I have to gloat while I still can. Now if I could just get Michael Wilbon to read this thread...)
I was loving the Knicks the first two games against Boston. They were gritty and had fight, and I was amped for Game 3. Then Game 3 happened and all that goodwill left me. I didn't even bother with Game 4 ... why bother, the Knicks weren't.
I may have predicted otherwise, but I'm ecstatic that the Hawks are killing Orlando. It means they can start measuring Dwight Howard for his Lakers jersey right now!
LOL to all the people who thought the LAKERS would just roll easy over the Hornets. I'm loving it that we are making them bleed right now. Fisher non existence, Gasol playing like a WNBA player, a scrub player arrested at IHOP and now KOBE refusing to listen to the Laker medical staff.
At least the Hornets are making life miserable for the Lakers!
I'm surprised and delighted that my Pacers have been playing as well against the Bulls as they've been, though obviously I haven't liked the result of three of the games. But at least we didn't get swept; now let's see if we can win Game 5 in Chicago and really make them sweat.

Geez, imagine the carnage if the Lakers, Spurs and Mavericks all go out in the first round. The Thunder would suddenly be big favourites in the west, but the underdogs could still keep running.
Got to give the Hawks credit. Everyone slotted them as an easy mark for Orlando, but here they are, putting the Magic on the ropes.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball
I will admit that I thought Orlando would be leading the series but the Hawks did win 3 out of 4 from the Magic in the regular season and are currently holding a favorable 3-1 series lead.
However, I think the biggest surprise is the Grizz holding a slight lead over the Spurs 2-1 in the series. I did say that the Grizz would give a good fight to who ever they would face in the first round and they have done just that. Then again, the Grizz did have a winning record against the NBA's top teams.

Its a 3-1 series lead now. I hesitate to say any more for fear of jinxing them.

Yeah, I just caught my mistake. I think it has been done like 6 or 7 times that a team has come back from a 3-1 deficit to win the series and the Grizz are on the verge of becoming (I believe) the fourth 8th seed in NBA history to upset a #1 seed.

And I believe the second one to do so in a five-year period, which is just Crazy-Go-Nuts!
Wow, the Magic (who annihilated the Hawks last year) just got taken out by them this year. Nice way to get revenge.

Ten Hawks-Magic games this season/post-season. Seven Hawks wins. No one who watched these teams THIS SEASON should be surprised.
JJ Redick, thanks for playing. You COULD have hit that last-second, wide open shot that surely would have ruined my birthday, but, well, you suck. Hooray!

Happy birthday and congratulations to your team; I hope they beat Chicago since they beat us.

Congratulations to the Memphis Grizzlies on their first playoff series win!

EDIT:
San Antonio just won't die, will they?
(edited by It's False on 27.4.11 2059)
Well, I guess now it is "Crazy-Go-Nuts!" as you said and San Antonio died.
Maybe it is me, but from the way it looked, Memphis came out and played to compete whereas it looked like the Spurs kept things close but did not have the fire lit underneath them compared to how Memphis played. Congrats though to Memphis who won their first playoff series and should be an interesting match-up against the Thunder.
Now this makes Memphis the fourth #8 seed in NBA history to go the semi's (and second in 5 years as It's False pointed out). Memphis now joins the '94 Nuggets, '99 Knicks, and the '07 Warriors to pull the upset.
Also somewhat noteworthy: the Grizzlies are only the second 8-seed to beat a 1-seed in a Best-of-7 series. The Nuggets and Knicks won their respective series when the first round of the playoffs was Best-of-5.
Well, you've won the coveted TheWBracketology pool by 30 points over me! No one managed to get the national champion right in our little pool, but there's always next year! Check out the results (games.espn.go.com) here.
