WWE announces 10% overall staff cutbacks (WWE Corporate)

D'Lo Brown among the first cuts... (WWE.com)

Oh, COME ON! I guess with their recent signing, they're over their limit of "Lo"s.

Bam Neely has been added to the list as well.

EDIT: PWInsider is reporting that referees Mike Posey and Jimmy Korderas (who has been with WWE since 1987) have been let go too.

Dammit! Well, at least maybe I can download D'Lo's entrance music. That's really my favorite part about him.

Val Venis as well. Damn, he seems like he's been there FOREVER.

You motherfuckers. I don't watch the product at all anymore - it's not like I'm going to miss watching him or anything, but I just want a decent fucking D'Lo Brown action figure. Is that too much to ask?

Motherfuckers.

EDIT: Cut out a bit of jabbering.

Geez, WWE - happy new year to you too. Why the hell will they take the time and effort to resign someone just to remove them so shortly thereafter? I mean, I can see dropping Colin Delaney and Braden Walker, who were unequivocal failures...but D'Lo? He was getting some decent face reactions. Plus, Venis himself has been a steady low to mid card performer who (from what I've seen) never complained about putting over the next big star.

I'll never understand why they feel the need to remove referees, though...especially Korderas. I mean, who's next?

Maybe they were let go to help pay for the expected-soon-to-be-signed Christian Cage.

I think this crop of releases can be blamed purely on cost-cutting measures due to the current stinkiness of the U.S. economy, as opposed to the usual "we have nothing for this guy" reasons.

I bet they probably asked old hands like Venis (who's name I just noticed it spelled closer to "Penis" than "Venus", interesting) and Korderas to take a fat pay cut, which they declined. I just pulled that completely out of my ass, but it sounds plausible to me.

I mean, WWE has plenty of young dudes hanging around who can fill Venis' jobber role on the cheap anyway, right?

Better late that never?

The slow build to the big Chavo vs. Bam explosion was too slow, as it turns out. By the time Christian is on TV, I wouldn't be surprised if there were even fewer La Familialumni left. Not to turn this into a "I SUSPECT THEY WILL BE CUTTING SCOTT 2 HOT TAYLOR SOON AS WELL" thread.

D'Lo and Val Venis were two of my favorites and now I am extremely disappointed. I hope TNA picks them up, but they probably won't. I know D'Lo had a run there already. Dammit.

With Stevie Richards going in the last round, and Val Venis finally biting the dust in this round, who is next in the 'When does he get shown the door after all this time pool?' If I'm Bob Holly and Tommy Dreamer, I'd be paranoid any time I get a call with a Connecticut area code.
Now, according to this article http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/090109/world_wrestling_job_cuts.html?v=2 this 60 job cuts to slash 10% doesn't involve wrestlers being released.

I can't believe Jimmy Korderas got laid off. If watching Owen Hart die in your arms doesn't automatically make you a lifer, this isn't the business I thought it was. At least they left RF Video enough time to get a SHOOT from him in time for the tenth anniversary.

I don't remember any of the Tim White suicide skits. Thanks youtube. Is it wrong that I get a chuckle out of them? Here's all of them in sequence.

If he kills himself due to this firing.....I don't think I need to express the great deal of irony involved.

D'Lo didn't do much after his return. Not his fault maybe but *shrug*
Val has been around so long and was nothing compared to what he used to be. Who knows, maybe he will be back someday backstage.
Guys like Neely, Thorne, and others were never really much more than (lower)midcard looking for new gimmicks. Might as well let 'em go.

The refs make sorta sense. With the rotation they had going on already you can cut down on those.

And for all we know, they sat down with guys like Korderas and mutually agreed on things. Maybe he didn't feel like traveling much more so he was the easiest to let go.
Same for White.

I probably feel worse for the people we don't know. Losing your office job right now is probably not a good time.
They can't go out and earn a few bucks in a highschool gym based on their past glory.

Val Venis had an enviable tenure, and his dismissal is surprising. I hoped he could transition to a ringside announcer for a b-show, and he seemed like a natural to take over for Lawler when commenting on Diva matches. But that's fantasy management. I'm always hoping Lawler puts down the headset for good.

I'm sorry to see him gone, and I hope he's financially secure.

Goodbye, ladies.

With WWE going to a PG product, the King's commentary should improve. Assuming it's his horndog antics that annoy you like they do so many others. 94-98 he was pretty good.

Too bad for Venis, but no big surprise. He was there for 10 years, even though 5 of them were pretty uneventful. But back to the point of being PG rated now, there's not much room for a porn star/gigolo in a kid friendly world.

I guess the weeks and weeks of agonizingly bad segments with Al Wilson has concluded with some sort of payoff. Yes, if you've read the Smackdown spoilers, you know that Dawn Marie REALLY wanted all along was some HLA with Torrie Wilson.
