When it matters, they do. (Brock Lesnar wasn't up for Brawler of the Year, for example.) But there isn't a significant difference in the charisma or drawing power of a wrestler vs a fighter. It was definitely weird to have Silva/Leites in competition with Sharmell/Jenna, I'll grant you.

Ugh, I can't stand him. He's an instant channel-changer for me (except I have to cover Smackdown). Nothing he does in the ring is interesting in the slightest and he's gotten noticeably heavier and slower in recent years. He could be used to give some younger guys some big wins, but he's more often than not protected in matches for some reason. | Alex

There isn't one that comes to mind that is good because of him, but he did win one of the four team TLC Matches.

He is just a tough guy to follow without the mask now. Once that went away, he became another generic big man.
As for the awards, I am ok with most of it, but throwing in MMA is a bit much. MMA is a totally different world then wrestling. I am not a fan of it, but I understand why people are fascinated with the "real" fighting sport since boxing is dead. | Amos Cochran

Either this reflects the inoffensiveness of the PG-era or I'm growing abnormally cold-hearted, because I wouldn't describe any of these things as disgusting.

Yeah, I'd say it's silly to pool them for "Worst Match" honours. Pro wrestlers should entertain first and foremost, mixed-martial artists' only aim should be to win, so the criteria for judging 'best' and 'worst' should be different. Many of the MMA selections are also kinda dumb IMO, but that's another matter.
Originally posted by lotjx I am not a fan of it, but I understand why people are fascinated with the "real" fighting sport since boxing is dead.
The death of boxing is greatly overstated. It might be struggling in the States, but in Europe (particularly Germany) either Klitschko could comfortably pull in tens of thousands of paying fans to watch them shadow-box for half an hour. Even in the US they'll likely smash PPV records as soon as they get Mayweather and Manny to sort out their differences.
"Not what it once was", yes. "Dead", no.

I can imagine #1 and #2 being called worst because the feuds were just stupid. Santino was not funny at that point. And it just dragged on and on. And the same goes (originally, i think they have salvaged it) for the Mickie/Piggy angle. However, this one is a bit more 'disgusting' because out of all the Divas that WWE has, Mickie is the closest to a real woman. She's still toned, tanned and pumped up, but not as plastic/skinny as the others (excluding beth) and it could give the wrong example (hah! wrestling? wrong examples? wow!)

Yeah, I guess it doesn't bother me because the crux of the feud was "asshole It Girls bullying perfectly beautiful but sensitive Mickie James" and it was always going to lead to Mickie giving them what for and standing up for "real women" at some point. It's hardly original storytelling (it's been played out a kajillion times on kids TV and teen-angst series) but it was never really the stuff of disgust.
And it goes without saying that I am shocked by your insinuation that professional wrestling shouldn't be considered a source of healthy role models for young folks seeking the body beautiful ;) | odessasteps

I have no problem with the Piggy James angle itself - one girl who's not fat says that another girl who's not fat IS fat, so they fight. That's fine. But the whole angle is really pretty obnoxious because (so the story goes) it was done to humiliate Mickie because she got too fat for WWE's liking. That sends an awfully bad message to her, to the other female wrestlers (one of whom, as noted, was hospitalized with an eating disorder not that long ago), and to the fans.
