Wow, tons of awesome games so far today. Didn't see a ton of the LSU game, but nice win there. The ND/Washington game was perfect except for who won.

As for FSU, I heard a lot of rumors of coaching issues this week and maybe it's true cause those players just don't look motivated. Word is Bobby is never around and that leaves Jimbo(head coach in waiting) fighting with Amato(assitant head coach) as to who's in charge. Fighting in front of players and such. Guess I'll just have to wait and hope Bobby and Micky retire after this year and see what Jimbo can do. I still believe he's a good coach.

Could be 5-0, very possibly could be 1-4. Even the people who hate Notre Dame have to admit that at least their games are exciting this season. 3 goal line stands by a horrid defense.
Perhaps Florida State liked going out towards the northwest in their trip to Provo so much that they are trying to get to play a bowl game on the Blue Turf in Boise. Don't think they are going to get the rematch against Miami in the conference title game at this rate.
LSU is either playing on the edge and is going to get burned at some point, or they are on one of those magical runs. I think it is the former, but, weirder things have happened.
Really thought Michigan getting points was stealing money going into today.

Michigan got points and still lost, so unless my lack of knowledge of gambling is wrong, how is that easy money? Michigan was really awful today and that 26-20 score is misleading. How did MSU not blow it though? NEW ERA IN SPARTY LAND

Maryland wins Maryland wins Maryland wins. Thank you for being Clemson, Clemson.

Virginia wins 16-3 at UNC, what? I know UNC was overrated but jesus christ.

Virginia Tech barely beat Duke but whatever, VT's gonna be top 5 soon.

Actually I got sick of hearing how shitty the ACC was all day, so it's nice to see Miami shut some critics up (hopefully, one game doesn't change much but its a start) ACC should have 2 top 10 teams now.

So, guess Cal was overrated after all. I'm even madder Maryland got murdered by those assholes now.

Houston down 58-41 with 1 minute to go and Boise sucked against UC Davis on the blue field. So much for the mid majors today.

LSU/Georgia and ND/Washington were great. Washington really got hosed by the officials on that 2 point conversion though.

Top 5:
1. Texas
2. Florida
3. Alabama
4. LSU
5. Virginia Tech

I don't believe for a second that LSU and Boise State are top 5 teams and Cincinnati's and TCU's wins aren't that good. I'd put Miami and VT in the top 5 with Florida, Alabama and Texas. Yeah they both have one loss but that's what happens when you start the season with three or four ranked opponents. I guess USC is lumped in with that group too after beating Cal but Ohio State hasn't beaten anybody to deserve to be in the mix.

Georgia got hosed on the excessive celebration call as well. Hard to feel sorry for them when they can't tackle a LSU player on the last drive though.

Considering how LSU, Georgia and Ole Miss all look like they were ranked way too high I wouldn't be completely shocked if Auburn has a shot at the West when the Iron Bowl comes around.

Miami is ranked way too low but VT's back in the top 5 again according to the latest polls. The problem with Miami is that they REALLY got destroyed vs VT. A 31-28 loss they'd probably be ranked higher, but 31-7.. ouch.

I was a bit shocked at all the undefeated teams still left like Auburn, Missouri and others. Notre Dame still stuck at 33 which I agree/disagree with since Penn State being 14 while losing at home to unranked team while ND beat the team that beat USC. Washington's lost to Stanford was just bad, but maybe Stanford is a better team that most though. Still, this heart attack ending is not doing ND any favors since college football is about putting up points on other teams then anything else. Cal is done as well as Houston and Georgia. It still don't understand how Oklahoma is still in the top 20. They probably won't even get to the Big 12 championship at this rate. LSU/Florida is going to be the big hyped game of the week as well as Teabow's injury. I am going to be so sick of hearing about it by Thursday that I will be rooting for LSU so hard I may get a gold and purple jersey before the game.

The four teams Notre Dame has beaten have a combined record of 6-14. None of the four have a winning record. And Notre Dame is barely beating these teams.

Notre Dame is "stuck" at 33 because Notre Dame isn't any good. The Irish are a bye week away from their four-touchdown defeat at USC, hopefully that will be the end of any discussion about Jimmy Clausen and Notre Dame this year.

Probably because they've lost to two top 15 teams by a total of 2 points, neither at home.

Hearing people say that Jimmy Clausen is not only in the running for the Heisman this year but might be the LEADING CANDIDATE is making me barf. Do these people watch the games or are they just looking at the win-loss total?? Geez Louise!

Clausen is passing almost 300 yards a game with 2 to 3 TDs. Tim Teabow couldn't even get a passing touchdown against Tennesse and that team is at least on the same level of the teams ND is playing. Colt hasn't really been challenged except by Texas Tech and he threw more Ints then TDs in that game. Bradford is officially out and minus the Miami QB who laid an egg against VT, who is the best QB. He also has the best passer rating as well in an offense that throws it a ridiculous amount. At this point, why wouldn't he be the leading candidate. ND's defense is what is killing them not the offense. Hell, I would throw Golden Tate in there as well. Why does the Heisman have to be about QBs and RBs? I am biased, but lets be fair the three returning Heisman finalist haven't been that impressive this season.

Tebow doesn't just rely on his arm though. His rating is just barely below Clausen, and honestly I haven't been that impressed by either this season. Tate is good, but if you're going WR, I'd take A.J. Green first.

Case Keenum.

By the way, I don't think Nevada, Purdue, and Washington would fare well against Tennessee.

I love it when people conjure the imaginary Transitive Property of College Football.

By the way, if USC and Notre Dame run the table, I'm declaring Michigan the de facto national champs... because they beat Notre Dame, who beat Washington, who beat USC.

But under that scenario isn't Wisconsin the current national champs? (Wisconsin beat Michigan State who beat Michigan, etc...)

Washington *can* absolutely beat Tennessee. Tennessee's QB has got to be one of the worst of any BCS conference team. He REALLY sucks. I realize Washington's defense would make him look fantastic, but based on their performances against USC, LSU, and Notre Dame (who they really had beat), I would gladly take them in a match-up against the Volunteers.

Speaking of the Vols, how much heat does Kiffin feel if they struggle to make a bowl game? Georgia home, Alabama road, South Carolina home, Memphis home, Ole Miss road, Vandy home, Kentucky home. Since they lost to UCLA non-conference, the South Carolina game might be the difference between 6-6 and a bad bowl and 5-7, no bowl, and no extra month of practice. Having a big mouth is good if you go 9-3, not if you go 5-7.
On why I thought Michigan was stealing money before Saturday's game: State looked like they were in the traditional death spiral, they hadn't beaten Michigan 2 straight years since before I was born, and I thought Michigan would beat them by 2 touchdowns. Getting close to a field goal head start really looked good.
LSU is getting 8.5 in the Bayou on a Saturday night. I know they are flawed, but never thought I'd see a Top 5 LSU team getting that with those circumstances.

So when USC beats ND in 2 weeks, your argument will make even less sense than it does now. Cos Washington can beat USC, so they can beat ND too right?

We had the same idea about the Michigan game. I was stunned when I saw that result.

If Tebow is able to play, I would take UF and give the points.

I know you explain this poll a lot, but can you - if you care enough to do so - defend Notre Dame at No. 6?

Loads of other stuff here doesn't make sense to me either, but that's the most ridiculous of them. Ohio State jumps 25 spots with a win over Indiana? USF jumps 10 spots with a win over No. 65 Syracuse? And Boise State was actually No. 1 last week?

I know you've been doing this for several years, but I don't remember your poll ever being as absurd as this one right here. Even if the answer is, "it's early and the poll will sort itself out," there are other computer polls out there that would never have Boise State ranked No. 1 at this point because Boise State clearly does not deserve a No. 1 ranking anymore than Notre Dame deserves to be No. 6.
