Well that sucked. Every time FSU got something going they killed themselves with fumbles and penalties. Credit to USF for playing hard, but damn. If FSU could have gotten out of it's own way, just like the J-State game, it would have been different. Ugh. At least it wasn't a conference game, so I can have hope for something good this year. Daniels looked like he'll be better than Grothe in time.

I think you mean, "USF forced a fumble." FSU players weren't just arbitrarily laying the ball on the turf, they were getting drilled by a defense that is better than their offense.
Daniels looked like he'll be better than Grothe in time.
Daniels looked like shit. He had two huge pass plays when FSU was clearly not expecting downfield passes, while everything after halftime gave me a heart attack.
Now for another round of, "What a stunning upset by USF!!!" despite the fact that the team has won its past five games against ranked teams. It doesn't mean they're gonna win the national title or anything, but anyone "stunned" by this result hasn't been paying very much attention.

Sure they played and hit hard. But considering this offense did the exact same thing against J-State, I'd say it's half and half. Though that one fumble by Ponder was crap. Doesn't look like it would have mattered but the arm was clearly starting forward. Oh well, congrats to USF.
For a first big start, I'd say Daniels played solid.
The reason people keep calling them "stunning" upsets, is cause USF tends to collapse every season. If they can get consistent for once that will stop.
Mississippi State blows another SEC upset. The defense was great in the first half but the offense was passing out turnovers like Halloween candy. Then they can't punch in the winning touchdown on four tries. Miss St. played better than they've been in years but clearly LSU isn't the 7th best team in the country either. They could be in trouble considering 4 of their next 5 games are Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Alabama. They could lose any of those games.
Well, in a world of confusion and peril, at least Michigan State continued their tradition of once they take a few punches, going straight into the death spiral. Thanks for joining us in the Fight For the Rose Bowl/BCS Title Game Cal. As a consolation prize, enjoy El Paso on New Years Eve. Does help Boise's standing. Cincy might need to be watched as a darkhorse. Decent non-conference schedule, and most of the teams in front of them will beat each other up.
Who was it that posted that Illinois would be a New Years Day bowl team?

Farewell Penn State. Sounds crazy, but Boise State might be in essentially the #3 spot in terms of the human polls, as they'll be behind Texas and the 3 SEC teams (Alabama, LSU, Florida). Since the SEC teams are assured of only a maximum of 1 being unbeaten, Boise is going to be in the best position of any non-BCS conference team since the system was created. They won the game with the dramatic comeback, but, how do you blow a time-out and go for it on 4th and 10 from the Purdue 35 with 2 minutes to go in the 3rd, up 10, and with a back-up QB? The defense sucks, that is true, but, play the field position game in that situation. If the Irish don't come back and win, that would have been the final nail in Charlie's coffin. Waiting for the candlelight vigils being set up by ESPN outside of Tebow's hospital room.
BTW, it's an upset for USF because 1) They were an underdog 2) They were at FSU who just beaned BYU 3) They were an underdog 4) They just lost their leader and best player 5) They were an underdog
Looking forward to USF/Cincy in 2 weeks, that'll be awesome.
Indiana got hosed. The Big 10 sucks.
(Oh, and the Miami bandwagon is a lot lighter again. Whew.)

I don't think one loss at Ohio State eliminates that possibility. Illinois' offense looked pretty bad, sure, but I still think the team could finish second in that conference. Maybe. Juice Williams will have to play much better than he did Saturday, though, that's for sure.

I think I'll take another round of that before I take another round of you telling us why USF is the best team in world history.

As soon as you can point out a time when I said this, this post won't be fucking stupid.
All I ever said was, at a point when they were clearly having one of the two best seasons in the country, they deserved to be ranked No. 2. If you can't tell the difference between this and "USF is the best team in world history," then ... I guess there's not much hope for you.
It's nice of you to try and restart the argument I purposely was avoiding and you claimed you didn't want, though.
In regards to Illinois, they've played 3 games, and the scores in the 2 losses are 37-9 and 30-0. So, the offense sucks and the defense sucks. That combination usually keeps you out of the San Diego Credit Union Bowl, let alone an upper level bowl. And, in a weird situation, they still have to play Cincy and Fresno non-conference after the Big Ten schedule concludes.
Kentucky *still* isn't in Florida's league (other than being in the SEC dammit), That Indiana/Michigan game deserved to end in OT (IU got screwed by the refs), If I was Mississippi State's AD I would have *FIRED* their coach after that horrible 3rd and goal call, same with Purdue's coach after calling a timeout when ND had *NO* timeouts left, was going to spike the ball and gave them an extra down to, of course, beat them, and LSU continues to be the luckiest team going . .
"You are going to get a certain amount of snarkiness on the Internet no matter what, and my rule is that you don't post anything that you wouldn't say to someone's face." Marc Andreyko (Writer of DC Comic's "Manhunter")
Cal will come back next week and officially end USC, but USC will only fall 5 spots in the polls. I am not shocked by the Iowa win since this is what you get when you cupcake the first month and then play a real team. ND did get lucky, but considering they were missing their top receiver, running back and had the back-up QB for 65% of the game, they should have lost that game anyway. The real question is why they stopped using Crisp in the wildcat and put Clausen in for a few series to kill the rhythm of the offense. At this point, Texas will go undefeated and face a one loss SEC team probably Alabama while Boise State goes undefeated who will beat another top ten team in convincing fashion and get 2 first place votes while Texas gets crushed and Bama is the national champion. Unless Michigan goes undefeated due to hometowning every team that gets close to beating them.
Wow, LSU gets the #4 spot by default. They need to make a new rule that the pollsters aren't required to fill in a spot in the rankings if no teams are worthy. If LSU is the best they could come up with then spots 4 - 10 would be better off being blank.
Oregon is understandable. Ranked preseason, lost on the road to the team that is now ranked #5, and absolutely obliterated the team that was #6. I'm just surprised based solely on the name that Michigan hasn't moved into the Top 20 yet.
Michigan's wins after the ND one have been shakey at best. Granted ND has not moved from being 33 after their lose to Michigan either due to how they have been able to survive games where they should be blowing people out of. USC being back in the top ten after getting embarrassed last week tells you how terrible this system really is. Iowa is undefeated and in my opinion should be ranked in the top ten same goes for South Florida. I get tired of seeing teams with one loss due to upsets ranked ahead of teams with no lose and beating ranked teams.

I agree. Cincy (wins at Rutgers/Ore State, vs Fresno), Houston (wins at #5 Okla State, vs TTU), and USF (win at FSU) should all be in top 10 right now. If they are frauds, they will lose and be exposed, but hey, Ole Miss was a fraud and they were 4t anyways. And the world's still standing.

If you mean Daniels, they didn't let him get away, they didn't want him. They got E.J. Manuel that year, who was much higher rated, so they didn't need to sign any more QB's. I'm still happy with who FSU got that year, but we'll see what happens.
I've changed my formula slightly, AGAIN. I wasn't happy with the Elo system so I've come up with one that is similar but isn't exactly the same. Case in point, I have 5 teams tied at 2 different ranks (2 at 56th, and 3 at 98th). Long story short, I have never liked how the talking heads on ESPN take into account WHEN a team loses. I realized that my Elo system takes into account when games are played. In my new formula, game order doesn't count. I will probably change last year's rankings with my new formula as I planned to re-do them if FSU has to vacate their wins.
As before, this system is setup to find out which teams have accomplished the most to date, not to compare rank teams in order of who could beat who. All teams started at 1200 points and they move up and down from that starting point.
Only FBS wins and all losses count towards the strength of schedule, which is a major part of my formula.
I just emailed Massey my rankings, so I'm not going to show up on the comparison grid just yet as I am about 5 days late due to a family emergency.

It's Warren Sapp, who hinted as much in January. ESPN - Sapp files paperwork, officially puts end to 13-year career I'm somewhat surprised that someone as outspoken as Sapp decided to go so quietly.
