As I said in the predictions thread Smith/Johnson are one of the most underrated offense/defense duos in the league. Josh Smith has been sick this season, it's absurd that he didn't finish in the top three in the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Smith guarded KG most of the night, held him to 20 points and blocked 7 shots.
Also, I don't know if it's Rondo, the defense as a whole, or the coaching but the defense on Bibby in games 3 and 4 was horrible. In games 1 and 2 they shut him down completely.
Unfortunately the Hawks are a horrible road team. No way they win a game in Boston.
Meanwhile, the Lakers finished off their sweep of the Nuggets, and the Magic beat the Raptors in five-- marking, for both teams, their first playoff series victory since the last time Shaquille O'Neal played for them.

I fell asleep after three quarters with the Celtics up by 10. I slept pretty well assuming they put them away. Imagine my surprise when I saw the score this morning. I envision Garnett being really upset now and bringing the deathblow now.
Originally posted by It's FalseSeriously, is the East so bad that the top two seeds are going neck-and-neck with a pair of below-.500 teams? Do we REALLY have to pencil in LeBron for the Finals again after that abomination of a Finals series last year?
So much for the Jason Kidd trade. It amounts to squat, because the Mavs are going home in the first-round again. I don't know what's going to happen now, but I'll say that it's an unfair world when Avery Johnson (who got his team to the Finals two years ago) gets sent packing from Dallas before George Karl gets turfed from Denver. I'm hoping Johnson gets another chance, because it shouldn't be his fault that the Kidd trade didn't pan out.
And now Phoenix is out too. Just cut and paste the above paragraph and substitute "Suns" for "Mavs", "Shaquille O'Neal" for "Jason Kidd", "Mike D'Antoni" for "Avery Johnson", and "Phoenix" for "Dallas".

Originally posted by DirtyMikeSeaverI was thinking that Atlanta might take Game 3 with the crowd being fired up for the first playoff game in 10 yrs, but then I realized that there will probably be about 8,000 people there and that Boston killed them in their last meeting. Boston in 4.
The series isn't over yet, and the Hawks are going to lose Game 7 in Boston, but I'm pretty sure the quotes above represent the sentiments of 99% of all the non-Hawks fan in the world. And so, I will now take the next couple of days to gloat and soak in the greatness of forcing a Game 7 in what was "supposed to be" the surest 4-game sweep in the playoffs this year. Who needs the western conference?? The EASTERN conference playoffs have been totally sweet so far.
Originally posted by It's FalseI think this is the part where CRZ looks at all the "Celtics in 4!" posts and sarcastically refers to us all as "SUPER GENIUSES". Can't say we don't have it coming. I'll take my dunce cap now.
Boston can (and probably will) win Game 7 by 30. It won't matter. LeBron is SO eating these guys for breakfast in the next round.
Last time Doc Rivers coached a Celtics team in a Game 7 at home, it was the largest margin of defeat ever for a home team in a Game 7. If somehow Boston survives this series, it won't be a long run for them, as half the team will probably be suspended at some point due to having too many playoff technicals. Will PJ Brown set a 7 game playoff series record for worst plus/minus for his team per minute played?
Originally posted by It's FalseNote to the Atlanta Hawks: If THAT was the best you could bring to a Game 7, you shouldn't have bothered to get on the plane. Yeesh!
...riiiiight. I think any time a sub-.500 team can force a Game 7 against a 66-16 team, you don't have any place to be expecting anything more.
Have you not been paying attention this season? Or how about at least this SERIES? The Hawks are an abysmal road team, and only a mediocre to half-decent home team. Obviously I would have loved it if the Hawks pulled out a victory but I was expecting a 30ish-point loss, just like in the other three games in Boston. The Hawks have a long way to go.
It's official-- former Pistons player and assistant coach Michael Curry, who was also formerly the head of the player's association if I remember correctly, has been named the next head coach of the Pistons.
