And thank god we've got Ugly Betty to fill that "show about shoes for vapid women" hole left by Sex and the City, and John C. Lost is about the only thing I watch with regularity on network TV, so I can't talk about the other nominees much. But I still have to think that Lost deserved a spot, especially over Boston Legal (I didn't even know that show was still around).
But hey, at least they get a couple of mentions in the best Supporting actor category...where they are sure to cancel each other out and leave Lost with nothing. woo.

I am outraged also. I know I am old and all, but we watch television, too! CSI: is my favorite show and it gets table scraps? I like The Office as much as the next guy, but no love for CSI:?

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

It would've just got run over by the Sopranos' juggernaut, but damned if it isn't better than Boston Legal, Grey's, House and sure as hell Heroes. At least Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn got nominated, but even in the supporting categories Lost got hosed. Where's Henry Cusick? Yunjin Kim? Elizabeth Mitchell? Josh Holloway? Naveen Andrews?
My Name Is Earl deserves more love than it gets. It is absolutely one of the best comedies on TV, and Jason Lee and Ethan Suplee both should've been nominated. Not sure why the Emmys continue to insist that Desperate Housewives is a comedy, (or why Boston Legal is a drama).

That's actually determined by the show's producers; you submit in whatever category you want. In its first season, Gilmore Girls submitted as a drama, got shut out by all the competition, then tried as a comedy for seasons two through six before going back to drama for its seventh and final. The Simpsons had muy success in the Best Animated Series for its first few years, then submitted as Best Comedy for a year or two...and didn't get a nomination. Back to Animated Series.

Even worse, all Janice did was separate the fighting Bobby and Tony, and made a one-liner in the series finale. If you're just going to haphazardly give out nominations to Soprano alumni, how about Dominic Chianese, who has one of the most touching moments of the series in the finale, and before that had a great episode where he despretely tries to hold onto his past in the mental ward, but fails. How about Robert Iler, who's AJ goes through one of the hardest times in his life, almost killing himself, but you can still read through Iler that mentally he's just playing himself and all of us, and his wish was never really to die, but rather just enjoy a simple life, like his father.
What about Johnny Sack? Bobby? Phil Leotardo? Agent Harris? Nope, gotta make room for Shatner and Hiro. Or, if we're just giving out awards for life of a show's work, how's about one stinking nomination for Sharon Angela (Rosilie Aprile)? | StaggerLee

I'm surprised Jenna Fischer got a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. I really hope Carell wins Best Actor over Shalhoub, not that Shalhoub's performance has gone downhill, it's just that Carell is that good.
Once again, I'm torn between rooting for O'Quinn and Shatner for Supporting Actor. I'll go with the "Shatner has already won oncce" reasoning once again and cheer for O'Quinn (same with me rooting for Laurie over Spader in Best Actor).

Agreed. Bracco did submit The Blue Comet, which was easily her best of the year, but this feels like a make up for not winning for Employee of the Month in 2001.
I would have liked to see Chianese get a supporting nomination as well, but he would have just taken votes away from Imperioli who I think should win for his amazing performance in Walk Like a Man. I felt so bad for Christopher that episode, and the life he was stuck in. And then in the end, I feel bad for feeling bad for that heartless murdering bastard. (And I guess this was the episode Daly got nominated for as well.)
Gandolfini seems a lock to win, though I'm not sure which episode he submitted. Falco, I dunno, she had a smaller role this year. Her inner conflict about her life was gone, so there wasnt as much for her to do.
I just wish everyone could win, from the ones nominated to Johnny Sack and Agent Harris and Uncle Junior. So many memorable roles on this show, and so many actors who probably have given their lives best work to it.
And it's nice to see three of the five writing nominations go to Sopranos episodes. It's the writing that will make this show last for years to come. The Sopranos was at times heartbreakingly dramatic, others darkly hilarious, and in my opinion the best literary social commentary of our time.
Now it is time to catch up on The Shield.

Going by a little bit of time-killing internet research, it looks like both Gandolfini and Falco submitted The Second Coming as their episodes, and Soprano Home Movies was the episode submitted for the Best Drama nomination.
