You know, if the Yankees get Matsuzaka, I don't get agida with the thought of Wang, Matsuzaka, Mussina, Johnson, and Wright. I think the variable is Randy's health, as it was last year, and the year before. Mussina and Wright - well, you know what you'll get. Wang gives you no reason to think he'll drop off, and Matsuzaka, by all reports, is the real deal. I seriously doubt that there is a rotation in either league without a question mark or three, so with those five, and Hughes in AAA waiting, I am cool with it.

I was actually wondering what any Boston fans think about Sheffield playing with the Sox next season. Personally, I feel that the Yanks should have known Sheffield would have made an ass of himself and lowered his possible return on a trade, because I cannot recall the last time he has been anything other than selfish, if its ever happened at all. If they haven't officially picked up the option, they should decline it, and let him go to Boston if they and he desire it. He'd probably spend at least some time next season denting the Green Monster, but they'd have to pay him way too much for way too many years (for his liking), and eventually, he'd make everyone there miserable. Isn't that a good thing for the Yankees, having everyone in Boston miserable?

Hey, the real team the Yankees have to worry about now is those second-place Toronto Blue Jays, baby! And the TO payroll is going up again! Getting Vernon Wells signed to a long-term deal should be the first priority.

You're funny.

The thing about Sheffield that I don't get is why anyone thinks he should go to Boston. Really, where's he going to play? RF's probably a platoon situation with The Phenomenal Wily Modesto, and I think they have a guy at DH. Maybe first, as it seems Epstein's favorite hobby is fucking with Youkilis.

Sheffield has made it pretty clear he doesn't really want to play first for the Yankees.
This page says the Phillies and the Cubs want him.....

I think Wang will be fine next year but you never know, he's only played a year and a half it's possible people just haven't seen him enough yet. Remember Hideo Nomo blew everyone away his first two seasons but that didn't last long. As for Daisuke Matsuzaka well it's no guarantee that he's even a Yankee. The Mets need pitching as much as anyone and they've shown they're willing to match the Yankees. The Red Sox and Dodgers both have money and interest too.

Sheffield's option has been exersized (newsday.com), and two rumored deals (according to a NY paper's blog) are to SD in a deal including Josh Bard, and Houston in a Brad Lidge-centered trade. Sign me up for Lidge...

Also, they're closing in on a possible 2-year deal for Moose (nyjournalnews.com) worth $10-12 mil/year.

Quezzy, I wasn't trying to imply that Matsuzaka was in the bag...just that if he's that good, it would be really, really, really, REALLY cool to see him in pinstripes. With Wang, I don't think his success stems from novelty or a quirky wind-up, but from a hard, sick sinker.

You cant blame him for not wanting to leave if he's happy. And a happy superstar could be used to rebuild a team..... i just hope they aren't completely dismantling them.
