Local advertisements running in the UK for the 19th Annual WWE Survivor Series currently have five matches advertised already, and they are:
World Wrestling Entertainment Championship: John Cena (champion) vs. Kurt Angle
World Heavyweight Championship: Batista (champion) vs. Eddie Guerrero
Buried Alive Match: Undertaker vs. Randy Orton
Raw vs. Smackdown Classic Survivor Series Elimination Match: Team Smackdown!: JBL, Rey Mysterio, Mr. Kennedy, Chris Benoit, Christian vs. Team Raw: Shawn Michaels, Big Show, Carlito, Chris Masters, Shelton Benjamin
Legends Match: ”Rowdy” Roddy Piper vs. “Cowboy” Bob Orton
Well that's advanced service. If you can be trusted. But Meltzer has already mentioned everything but the Buried Alive match, so ...
Team Smackdown!: JBL, Rey Mysterio, Mr. Kennedy, Chris Benoit, Christian vs. Team Raw: Shawn Michaels, Big Show, Carlito, Chris Masters, Shelton Benjamin
Those are good teams (except for Chris Masters) and I am relieved that it didn't go the way of the 2003 and 2004 matches filling up the main event teams with the likes of Mark Henry, Bob Holly, APA, Nathan Jones, Matt Morgan, Luther Reigns, Mark Jindrak, Gene Snitsky, and Maven.
They should replace Masters with the returning Kane. Wait, where are Edge and Matt, I wanted them to end up on opposite sides like when Tito Santana would go after Rick Martel in Royals Rumble. Also I guess that means Hunter and Flair's program will go multiple matches.
Am I crazy for looking most forward to the legends match out of all that? I mean, I know they had a variation of that bout on SmackDown this week, but if they promoted it properly, it could be a fun little trainwreck.
Good that the Raw and Smackdown teams have two guys each who were on the other brand only a few months ago. Also, HBK just came out of a huge feud with Masters and Carlito and Rey is feuding with JBL; now they're teaming up?
On the flip side, congrats to ABC for hiring Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to "I like it, I love it" for every halftime highlight show throughout the "Monday Night Football" season. Just last week, my buddy House and I were discussing Cosell's classic highlight narratives in the '70s, and how nobody had approached them since, and I told House, "Only one thing could ever come close, and I know it's a long shot, but what if ABC hired Tim McGraw to tailor the lyrics to 'I Like it, I Love It' for each week of NFL highlights throughout the season?" And wouldn't you know, it happened! See, dreams can come true. --- Bill Simmons, www.sportsguy.net
Haven't they just done Batista/Guerrero and Cena/Angle on PPV? From what I heard, Batista/Guerrero last night was pretty definitive, so I would hope they do a cage match or 2/3 falls or something here.
I think this would be a good point to do a title switch onto one or both heels. I think this is the longest point in a while where we've had the WrestleMania champs still holding onto their straps.
So, as we await WrestleMania XIX with baited breath (BAITED!), I was thinking about what the WWF has in store for next year's WrestleMania, being that it's the twentieth WrestleMania and they probably have something ultra-swank planned.
