Petr Nedved and Jussi Markkanen to the Edmonton Oilers for forward Dwight Helminen, a second round selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and goaltender Stephen Valiquette.

I dont think that Sather has a plan (you can hear tyhe clock ticking on him).

Rent-A-Ranger continues.

Why the hell would Edmonton want Jussi Markkanen, though? Unless they're planning on dumping Tommy Salo after this year and going with Ty Conklin?

That's the rumour I've heard. Conklin has outplayed the far more expensive Salo, and Markkanen is a perfectly acceptable backup (who actually outplayed Dunham in New York this year).

It wasn't hard to outplay Dunham this year - Jussi looks to have a good future......good riddance Nedved - I have never liked you

I was kind of digging Markkanen at times this year, so I'm partly sorry to see him go. I hope this means that Jason LaBarbara is ready for the big club. And is there any word on when/if Dan Blackburn will be back?

At any rate, the Rangers have cleared the space for them to do what they should have been doing in past seasons--give the young players the time to show what they can do. For season after season their young players have either been traded away or left languishing, benched or sent down the moment they hit a slump. If they can show a little patience and stay with the young guys for a while, maybe we'll see things looking better at MSG.

Guess the Salo question just got answered. Oilers just sent him to Colorado.

Freeway - don't forget to throw Mike Richter and the NYR into that mix of dominoes. Slats is supposed to talk to Richter's agent today but we shall see what happens.
